Man charged with trying to lure teen in Westmoreland County

A McKeesport man is charged with trying to lure a teenager into his truck in Westmoreland County. Eighty-two-year-old Thomas Gibala of McKeesport is facing charges of luring a child into a motor vehicle, corruption of minors, harassment and disorderly conduct, the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday. Police said a 16-year-old was walking on Main Street in North Huntingdon Township under the Veterans Bridge last week when a man in a yellow pickup truck approached him and asked if he wanted a ride. After the teen declined, police said the man asked for directions to the Treasure Hunt store. Investigators said the teenager gave Gibala directions, and he again asked the victim if he wanted a ride. Police said the driver then "made a sexual advancement" toward the teenager, and when he refused, Gibala drove off. As North Huntingdon police investigated, detectives used license plate readers in the area, looking for a yellow pickup truck. Police said they were able to confirm Gibala's registration and location during the time of the alleged luring. The victim was able to positively identify Gibala in a photo lineup, police said. When detectives interviewed Gibala, they said he admitted to talking to the teenager and making sexual advances. Court paperwork shows Gibala has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 27.

Liberty Bells coming to every Pennsylvania county for America's 250th birthday

Across Pennsylvania, counties are getting ready to celebrate America's 250th birthday with an impressive statewide art installation. Bells Across PA will see 67 fiberglass Liberty Bells placed in each county, designed with images of the people, places and things that make that county so special. The Liberty Bell is not only an iconic symbol of America, but it's also an enduring symbol of Pennsylvania. It's so popular that soon the state's license plates will be ornamented with it. And starting this summer, each and every county in Pennsylvania will have a unique bell of its own. Westmoreland's bell is currently being worked on by artist Mandy Sirofchuck at her studio in Ligonier. Silvia Filippini-Fantoni, the director of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, says when the Westmoreland bell is finished in August, it will sit right outside the museum for all to see and experience. "When something is outside and it also represents a community that it is in, people can connect to it on a different level," said Filippini-Fantoni. "And I have to say that this bell will be doing exactly that. It is going to invite people to come, and I am sure that people will walk around the bell and try to figure out what buildings are what, what river is what, what animal is what and there will be a conversation, there will be stories that are shared and that's what makes art special." And while the bell that will sit outside the museum in Greensburg is currently being worked on for later this summer, event organizers are seeking a local artist in Westmoreland to make a second bell with the theme: "MORE Energy in Westmoreland: Powering our Past and Energizing our Future." This second bell is being sponsored by First Energy, and they are looking for images associated with coal, solar, wind, gas, hydroelectric and more. Submissions for this paid position are currently being accepted, so if you think you have what it takes to make a memorable bell design, click here for more information.

Talon Metals and Westmoreland Mining Sign Land Agreement to Progress North Dakota Minerals Processing Facility

Former coal mining site is set to be developed to process critical minerals for domestic defense and energy requirements, reducing current dependence on China and Russia Beulah, North Dakota--(Newsfile Corp. - May 28, 2025) - Talon Metals Corp. (TSX: TLO) (OTC Pink: TLOFF) through its wholly owned subsidiary Talon Nickel (USA) LLC ("Talon" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has secured a site currently owned by Westmoreland Mining LLC ("Westmoreland") as the location where Talon will develop its Beulah Minerals Processing Facility ("BMPF"). This milestone marks a significant achievement in U.S. domestic critical mineral processing infrastructure for nickel and other key minerals. Highlights Talon and Westmoreland have signed an option agreement for Talon to secure an approximately 256 acre portion of the former Westmoreland coal mine site near Beulah, North Dakota and the associated 7-mile rail spur for the development of Talon's BMPF. A signing ceremony was held at the site today to celebrate this milestone with the participation of several very important dignitaries, including North Dakota Governor Armstrong, Senator Hoeven, Senator Cramer and Congresswoman Fedorchak. The BMPF presents a first-of-its-kind opportunity for collaboration across energy, mining and critical mineral industries, transforming a legacy coal mine site into critical minerals processing to support the nation's national security and industrial revitalization priorities. Supported by a US$114.8M grant from the Department of Energy (see Company's press release dated November 2, 2023), the facility will work to support the nation's strategy to reduce reliance on foreign-sourced critical minerals. Talon was also awarded US$2.47m from the Defense Logistics Agency for innovative research to increase mineral extraction efficiency (see Company's press release dated December 11, 2024). The BMPF will leverage existing infrastructure on and near to the brownfields site, including an existing rail spur that connects directly to the BNSF Railway. Talon expects up to 150 high-quality direct jobs and hundreds more during construction of the BMPF. Next steps for the BMPF include permitting during the remainder of 2025 and 2026 with a targeted start of construction in 2027. "The Beulah Minerals Processing Facility is a game-changer for both North Dakota and the nation. By establishing a domestic supply chain for critical minerals, we are strengthening America's economic and national security, while creating good-paying jobs right here in Mercer County," said Senator Hoeven. "We worked with the Department of Energy to secure $115 million to help move Talon's project forward, reducing our reliance on China for these increasingly important minerals and positioning the U.S. as a leader in critical mineral processing." Jon Heroux, Westmoreland's Corporate Counsel for External Affairs said, "We are thrilled to partner with Talon on this transformative project, which directly aligns with a core element of Westmoreland's strategic vision: repurposing former coal and mining sites into hubs for industrial energy, mineral processing, and advanced data infrastructure. This collaboration demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships to drive economic revitalization while advancing the domestic production of critical minerals. The Beulah Minerals Processing Facility represents a forward-looking investment that brings new life to this community and reinforces North Dakota's vital role in strengthening America's energy and national security." The Beulah Minerals Processing Facility The proposed BMPF site is a subset of the former Westmoreland Beulah Coal Mine, located in Mercer County, North Dakota approximately 4 miles from the city of Beulah. The BMPF will receive high-grade nickel and copper ore from the proposed Tamarack mine in Minnesota and other potential sources across North America. Thanks to the Tamarack deposit's grade and proximity, the ore can be transported quickly, safely, and cost-effectively. Figure 2: Location of the proposed BMPF in relation to Beulah, North Dakota (approximately 7 miles by rail) To view an enhanced version of this graphic, please visit: Henri van Rooyen, Talon's CEO said, "Securing the site for the Beulah Minerals Processing Facility marks a pivotal step in our journey to build the most advanced nickel and copper processing facility in the world. This milestone not only strengthens U.S. critical mineral infrastructure but also reflects our commitment to sustainable development by repurposing legacy coal infrastructure. We are proud to collaborate with Westmoreland Mining, the U.S. Department of Energy and other important members of local, state and national government in creating resilient supply chains that support national security and energy independence." Agreement Terms 3-Year Purchase Option Period Subject to an initial 3 month due diligence period for Talon, Westmoreland has granted Talon the sole and exclusive right and option to purchase (the "Purchase Option") approximately 256 acres of land and an adjacent 7-mile rail spur (the "Property") as detailed further above. Talon may exercise the Purchase Option at anytime at its sole discretion over the ensuing 3 year period (the "Option Period"). In consideration for the Purchase Option, Talon Metals Corp. will issue Westmoreland 15,000,000 consideration options (the "Consideration Options") to purchase common shares of Talon Metals Corp. with a 3 year term from the date of issuance and at an exercise price equal to the volume weighted average trading price of the common shares of Talon Metals Corp on the TSX for the five trading days immediately preceding the date the Consideration Options are issued. Subject to the terms and conditions of the Consideration Options, one-third of the Consideration Options will vest immediately on the date of issuance; an additional one-third of the Consideration Options will vest on the one year anniversary of the date of issuance; and the last one-third of the Consideration Options will vest on the two year anniversary of the date of issuance. In the event that at any time during the Option Period Talon shall elect to terminate the Purchase Option, Westmoreland shall retain any Consideration Options which shall at such time have vested in accordance with the vesting schedule set out above, and all such vested Consideration Options shall remain outstanding and exercisable and any unvested Consideration Options at such time shall be deemed to be cancelled. In the event that at any time during the Option Period the Company shall elect to exercise the Purchase Option, any Consideration Options which at such time shall not yet have vested in accordance with the vesting schedule set out above shall automatically vest upon the exercise of the Purchase Option and all such Consideration Options shall be exercisable. The issuance of the Consideration Options remains subject to the final approval of the TSX. Purchase Price Upon the exercise of the Purchase Option by Talon, title to the Property will be transferred to Talon in consideration for Talon making future ore delivery payments to Westmoreland (the "Purchase Price"). Effective as of the first delivery of nickel bearing ore to the BMPF, Talon will pay Westmoreland $0.50 per metric ton of ore delivered to the BMPF (based on the nickel bearing ore having a grade between 1% and 5%). Any ore delivered that has a nickel grade of 1% or less will not be subject to any payment to Westmoreland in respect of such ore. Any ore delivered that has a nickel grade greater than 5% will be subject to a pro-rata increased payment relative to 5%. The Purchase Price is capped at $10 million. Amazon's Latest AI Feature Allows Sellers to Upgrade Old Listings

Amazon just keeps upgrading sellers' experience with artificial intelligence. The e-commerce giant announced Thursday it had launched a new tool to aid the seller experience. Called Enhance My Listing, the tool allows Amazon sellers to upgrade existing listings with AI. More from Sourcing Journal Deda Stealth CEO Explains Why Tariffs Made This Year the Right Time for U.S. Expansion Byte-Sized AI: Visa and Mastercard Link With AI Giants on Promise of Agentic Amazon CEO: Tariffs Haven't Brought Down Amazon has already released a variety of tools to aid seller experience; currently, sellers can create an optimized listing for a new offering on the marketplace with a few simple inputs. The company said that more than 900,000 of its sellers have used its generative AI-powered listing tool; according to the e-commerce company, sellers use what the tools spits out without making major edits 90 percent of the time. Still, sellers made it clear that, while the AI-powered, from-scratch listings are helpful, they also had an interest in using AI-powered systems to update longer-standing product listings based on seasonal trends, upcoming holidays or otherwise. 'Selling partners update their listings from time to time to ensure they are relevant, reflective seasonal trends, and appeal best to buyers. They've told us these updates can sometimes require substantial effort, so we wanted to simplify this process for them,' Mary Beth Westmoreland, vice president of worldwide selling partner experience, wrote in a company blog. Amazon powers Enhance My Listing with Bedrock, which enables the company to build generative AI tools and layers more efficiently. The company noted that its new technology can help sellers create 'timely, relevant recommendations for product titles, attributes, descriptions and missing details, saving [them] from having to take on that research themselves.' So, for instance, if a seller has previously—without the influence of AI—listed a pair of waterproof boots, but failed to mention that they serve consumers well for snowy weather, the tool may be able to help them refine the product description to attract an increased number of buyers. Alternatively, if a seller has listed an item that matches consumers' searches around specific holidays—Valentine's Day, for instance—Enhance My Listing might temporarily change the product's title to garner more search traffic. Amazon said Enhance My Listing 'has begun rolling out to select U.S. sellers, with expanded availability planned in the U.S. in the coming weeks.' In the meantime, the company has also been working to upgrade some of its other seller-facing technologies, like Project Amelia, which will soon be able to provide specific recommendations and insights based on specific problems sellers face. Westmoreland said the genesis of technology allows the company to give sellers the best chance to perform well on its marketplace. 'These impactful new tools are the latest examples of how Amazon is leveraging generative AI to transform nearly every experience we know—including how we support independent sellers in creating thriving businesses by selling in our store,' she wrote in the blog. 'We're super excited about the innovation and value that these new offerings provide for sellers, and we will continue to develop additional, innovative AI tools to further enhance the success of Amazon's selling partners.'

Westmoreland County man taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a man and child over a loose dog

A man is in custody after he was accused of assaulting a man as well as hitting a juvenile over a loose dog in Westmoreland County. According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, Greensburg police were called to South Hamilton Street for reports of an aggressive dog that had gotten loose. Once they arrived, they learned that the neighbor had pepper-sprayed the dog and a juvenile inadvertently. While they were unable to find the dog, they did see a fight in the yard of a home on West Newton Street. The suspect, Linwood Eley of Greensburg, was observed to be sitting on the victim's head after witnesses told them he punched the victim multiple times in the head. Eley is believed to have confronted the victim over pepper-spraying the dog, who nearly bit someone and assaulted him as a result of that. According to witness statements, Eley also hit a juvenile in the cheek during the middle of the fight. Eley also allegedly threatened to burn the victim's house down and made threats toward police, saying he was going to "slaughter" them. Several officers were required to take Eley into handcuffs and place him in a cruiser. Eley is now facing charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, and resisting arrest. He is now in the Westmoreland County Jail under a $45,000 bond. The victim and the child were taken to the hospital for treatment.
