It List: Lady Gaga unleashes 'Mayhem,' Robert Pattinson dies another day in 'Mickey 17,' '9-1-1' answers the call
Hello, friends! I'm Kelsey, your guide to all things pop culture for Yahoo Entertainment, and this is the It List, our weekly rundown of what's new and notable. In it, I recommend a slew of upcoming releases to watch, stream, listen to, read and binge. I'll walk you through my favorites. When: Season 8 returns March 6 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. What to know: The show about Los Angeles first responders has never been more timely, but the midseason premiere will see things go off the rails immediately when 9-1-1 operator Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is abducted by a serial killer. [Us Weekly/People] Why I'll be watching: I take great comfort in how nuts ABC's Thursday-night shows are — and Joshua Jackson told me he agrees. He stars in Doctor Odyssey, which comes on after 9-1-1 and is set to air a crossover episode in a few weeks. [Entertainment Weekly] When: is now streaming on Prime Video. What to know: The romantic comedy follows an independent photographer who's told that she'll find love over the course of her next five dates, sending her family into matchmaking mode. Naturally, that's when her ex reemerges. [The Hollywood Reporter] Why I'll be watching: Stars Simone Ashley and Hero Fiennes Tiffin are both rom-com royalty. I need this to hold me over until Bridgerton comes back. [IndieWire] When: is in theaters March 7. What to know: Robert Pattinson stars in this sci-fi thriller as an 'expendable' who violently dies and is resurrected into a new body over and over again in the name of science. Things get wonky when he inadvertently ends up with a living clone. [Rolling Stone] Why I'll be watching: I know I'm not the only person who's been begging for writer-director Bong Joon Ho's first film since Parasite. I'll be seeing it in 4DX to maximize my joy and terror. [USA Today/Variety] When: by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is out now. What to know: The legendary author behind Americanah and Half of a Yellow Sun is back with her first novel in more than a decade. This one follows a Nigerian travel writer and her friends as they reflect on their past loves and regrets. [The Telegraph] Why I'll be reading: All I had to read was this 150-word excerpt before smashing the preorder button. [The Bulwark] When: Lady Gaga's is out March 7. What to know: Lady Gaga has dabbled in pretty much every genre over the past two decades, but she's finally back to her roots — making upbeat, slightly weird pop bangers. [Billboard] Why I'll be listening: I always make time for Mother Monster, but I'll be putting in extra work to memorize Mayhem the second that it drops on Friday so I'll be ready to watch her pull double duty the next day on Saturday Night Live. [Rolling Stone] We'll be back next week with our latest picks. Want more It List? Click here. Are there other things you're excited about? Let us know in the comments below. It List: Kendrick Lamar takes over the Super Bowl halftime show, Amy Schumer stars in 'Kinda Pregnant,' the 'true-ish' story behind Netflix's 'Apple Cider Vinegar'
When: Kendrick Lamar performs at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday around 8 p.m. E.T. What to know: After topping charts and winning five Grammys for his Drake diss track 'Not Like Us,' Lamar might just be having the greatest February in human history. I'm exaggerating, of course, but it's pretty impressive. [Yahoo Entertainment] Why I'll be watching: We don't know much about what he'll do just yet — just that SZA will be joining him onstage. Surprises make for an excellent halftime show, though. [Billboard] When: is now streaming on Netflix. What to know: A woman (Amy Schumer) accidentally meets her dream man (Will Forte) while faking a pregnancy, so she has to keep the lie going. [Rolling Stone] Why I'll be watching: The chaotic premise has a classic rom-com vibe to me, which could really be something special with Schumer's personal twist. The star told my colleague Taryn Ryder that the characters are inspired by her life in 'every possible way.' [Yahoo Entertainment] When: by Tessa Bailey is out now. What to know: The book follows the love affair between a hockey player and a sheltered harp prodigy that falls apart when they find out their parents are engaged. [People] Why I'll be reading: Tessa Bailey churns out sweet and spicy romance novels like none other. I loved her last book, Fangirl Down, which miraculously got me interested in professional golf. [Elle] When: is now available on Audible. What to know: Usher looks back on the last three decades of his career for Audible's Words + Music series, with a special focus on his seminal 2004 album, Confessions. [Billboard] Why I'll be listening: I'll take all the gossip I can get on the album that gave us 'My Boo' and 'Yeah!' Plus, there are 40 other deliciously dishy episodes of the series with artists like Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg, which I recommend in general for all music fans. See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. By signing up, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy. When: All six episodes of are now streaming on Netflix. What to know: Kaitlyn Dever stars in this series based on the story of Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness guru who admitted to faking cancer to boost her social media following. [TVLine] Why I'll be bingeing: I remember when the real-life controversy began unfolding — it was the dawn of Instagram, when people were less skeptical about influencers. Netflix calls its adaptation 'true-ish,' but I can't wait to see its take because I'm obsessed with Gibson's mesmerizing saga. [Teen Vogue] We'll be back next week with our latest picks. It List: The Weeknd comes back around with new album, Jack Quaid plays against type in 'Companion,' 'You're Cordially Invited' wants you to save the date
Hello, friends! I'm Kelsey, your guide to all things pop culture for Yahoo Entertainment, and this is the It List, our weekly rundown of what's new and notable. In it, I recommended a slew of upcoming releases to watch, stream, listen to, read and binge. I'll walk you through my favorites. When: is now streaming on Prime Video. What to know: Reese Witherspoon stars as a woman who plans her sister's perfect destination wedding, only to find that she and the father (Will Ferrell) of a different bride-to-be are double-booked at the venue. [IndieWire] Why I'll be watching: 'I just like to do weird things,' Ferrell recently said following a stunt where he drank beer dressed as Buddy the Elf at a hockey game. That reminded me of how much I love him and Witherspoon, who I'm thrilled to see together in a romantic comedy. [Deadline] When: is in theaters Jan. 31. What to know: The movie follows Iris (Sophie Thatcher) as she goes on vacation with her boyfriend (Jack Quaid) and his friends. Things go awry when she realizes she's actually his sex robot. [Entertainment Weekly] Why I recommend it: I never thought of myself as someone who would root for AI over a human being, but Quaid told me he did his best to embody a 'despicable' guy who's convinced he's a romantic hero. His cluelessness makes him so much more hateable. When: by Lola Kirke is out now. What to know: Kirke, an actress and singer from a family of artists, considers herself 'fame-ish.' She revisits her tumultuous yet fabulous upbringing, surrounded by celebrities and wealth, in her memoir. [Los Angeles Times] Why I'll be reading: I'd been wondering what happened to the star of Mozart in the Jungle when I ran into her at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend. After a few minutes of internet sleuthing, her book is now en route to my apartment. [People] When: is out Jan. 31. What to know: Few artists are as consistent in delivering popular and critically acclaimed music as the Weeknd. He said a mental breakdown inspired the album and its accompanying film, which is out in July. [Variety] Why I'll be listening: It's the singer's first album since 2022 and might be his last project under this persona, so I'll take anything I can get while I still can. [Rolling Stone] When: All four episodes of docuseries are now streaming on Max. What to know: A number of new documentaries about Sean 'Diddy' Combs and his alleged crimes have come out recently. This one from Investigation Discovery stands out with 30 new interviews with his accusers, ex-staff members, friends and other people in his orbit. [Yahoo Entertainment] Why I recommend it: There are several bombshell allegations revealed in this docuseries that made me chillingly aware of just how much control powerful people have over society. And it's a cautionary tale that is still unfolding. [TheWrap] We'll be back next week with our latest picks. Want more It List? Click here. Are there other things you're excited about?
