George Wendt's cause of death has been revealed weeks after his sudden passing. The 'Cheers' star, famous for playing barfly Norm Peterson in all 11 seasons of the beloved NBC show, died from cardiac arrest, according to the death certificate obtained by TMZ on Thursday. The certificate also reportedly lists congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension as underlying causes. 12 George Wendt as Norm Peterson on 'Cheers.' Wendt's loved ones confirmed to The Post that the TV icon died 'peacefully in his sleep' on Tuesday, May 17, at age 76. 12 The star starred in the beloved NBC sitcom all 11 seasons. WireImage 'George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,' the family rep's told The Post in a statement. 'He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.' Wendt, who earned six Emmy nominations for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Norm, made his final few public appearances in 2024. In August of that year, he reunited with his 'Cheers' co-stars Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson on their podcast, 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name.' He seemed happy to be in the company of his famous colleagues and even addressed how he landed the role in the sitcom that ran from 1982 to 1993. 12 The show's Boston bar was where 'everybody knows your name.' It was impossible not to like him. As Carla, I was often standing next to him, as Norm always took the same seat at the end of the bar, which made it easy to grab him and beat the crap out of him at least once a week. I loved doing it and he loved pretending it didn't hurt. What a guy! I'll miss him more than words can say.' Despite 'Cheers' ending after 11 seasons and 28 Emmys, Wendt's character lived on. He went on to play Norm in two 'Cheers' spinoffs: 'The Tortellis' and 'Frasier,' as well as shows like 'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy,' 'Wings,' and more. Wendt starred as himself on 'Seinfeld' and 'The Larry Sanders Show,' and was featured as a recurring character on 'The Naked Truth' and 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch.' Wendt is survived by his wife, actress Bernadette Birkett; their children Hilary, Joe and Daniel; and his stepchildren, Joshua and Andrew.

Sarah Silverman recalls keeping 'I'm F---ing Matt Damon' video a secret from then boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel: 'I had to lie to him'
It's been 17 years since we all learned a little too much about Sarah Silverman's love life. On Jan. 31, 2008, Silverman surprised her then boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel with a gag video, revealing that she was involved in an affair with Matt Damon. The resulting clip turned into an early YouTube sensation, and added tankers-worth of fuel to the ongoing phony Damon-Kimmel feud. Silverman, who has a new Netflix special out now called PostMortem, stopped by Ted Danson's Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast and recalled how the video came together. The initial idea, Silverman said, came from "two writers on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Tony Barbieri and Sal Iacono, Jimmy's cousin Sal. I was on tour, and I was going through Miami, and that's where Matt Damon was living at that time. So we planned to do something when I was there." She continued, "[Jimmy and I] were a couple, and I remember I had to lie to him about where I was on tour, and I'm not good at that at all. I was just like, 'Commit to this.' The night before, we got together, and we wrote the song in a studio and recorded it. We wrote the song, like, in a fury, and one of the guys did Matt's voice. Then we had three hours at this hotel the next morning, and Matt had also given us three hours because he had a hard out at noon, because his daughter had a Halloween pageant." Danson, who admitted he had missed the phenomenon when it first happened, asked a bit about the lore of the Damon-Kimmel feud, a running gag that has gone on to involve Ben Affleck, Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake, and schtick at the Oscars ceremony and the World Series. Silverman explained how early on Kimmel had trouble securing guests. "I remember his second guest was a man with the longest arm hair. Like, it was really slim pickings. He couldn't get anyone. And I said, 'You should, say, take the biggest movie star, you know, Matt Damon. Say, 'Sorry, Matt Damon, we ran out of time' at the end of the show. And then he started doing that. And then when Matt started engaging in it, he was like, 'I wanna do this, but don't ever stop doing it.' And I think he still to this day says, 'Sorry, Matt Damon, ran out of time.'" Getting back to the shooting of the video, Silverman explained, "[Damon] came in and learned it in a closet in one of the hotel rooms, recorded his part, and then we just played the audio and lip-synced it. And we had four different locations, and it was just, like, run and gun. And it came out so great." Kimmel, meanwhile, knew nothing about it, and didn't know what he was going to see when Silverman rolled the clip on the show. "I think he acted mad because he felt like he needed to," she said. "But he loved it. And I remember we were brushing our teeth before the show, you know, like, in his dressing room, and he goes, 'Everyone says this video is great.' And I go, 'Keep your expectations low. It's just a funny video.' But it really was kind of one of the first viral videos, and it's so funny because after that, people would try to hire me to make a viral video, and I was like, 'Everyone wants to make a viral video. That's everyone's intention, I'm sure, but that's not something you can make.'" Silverman also said that she had rewatched the clip for the first time in a while about a year ago. "I was like, 'This actually holds up. So much of my comedy, and comedy in general, is just not evergreen. But that one felt pretty evergreen." You can hear Silverman's full chat with Danson below. Dick Van Dyke admits he has ‘lost a lot of friends' while discussing toll of living until near 100
Dick Van Dyke has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of nearing 100, saying: 'I've lost a lot of friends.' The 99-year-old star of 'Mary Poppins' and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' made the comments during a question and answer event in Malibu, California, alongside his wife, Arlene Silver, 53, while he reflected on the death of his long-time friend and co-star Ed Asner in 2021, which halted plans for a remake of 'The Odd Couple'. He was quoted by People saying about the stalled project: 'That would've been such fun, and we lost it. '(But) I've lost a lot of friends.' Arlene, who has been married to Dick since 2012, responded: 'He's outlived everybody. That's the curse of living to almost 100.' The couple appeared at the event to discuss Dick's career, health, and their relationship, which has drawn attention due to their 46-year age gap. Despite the difference in age, both described their bond as strong and enduring. 'We get along so well. Everybody said it wouldn't work,' Dick said. Arlene agreed: 'We just care about each other so much. It's eerie how well [the marriage] works. People the same age don't last,' she added with a laugh. Dick, whose birthday is on 13 December, has often credited his long life and good health to a steady exercise routine. 'I've always exercised, three days a week,' he said in January on the 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name' podcast. He added: 'I get down and do a lot of stretching and yoga,' before noting he uses workout equipment to achieve a full-body sweat. Despite the sorrow of outliving many close friends and co-stars, Arlene noted that Dick has remained 'so positive'. 'Well, life's been good to me. I can't complain,' Dick said. He also said he's looking forward to marking his centennial birthday with a celebration. During his podcast interview, he also said he was planning a 'big party' to commemorate turning 100.

John Mulaney 'shocked' by sobriety
John Mulaney is "shocked" he has maintained his sobriety. The 42-year-old comic has spoken in the past about his addiction to cocaine and alcohol and he is proud he has managed to stay away from both since his 2020 relapse, particularly during the stress of wife Olivia Munn's cancer battle. Speaking to Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson on their 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name' podcast, he said: "I will admit it's a huge change. Just a huge way of looking at everything. And I'm shocked I did it. I'm shocked I was able to do it. Become sober. To actually stick to it in every way. To not have, 'Well I still do this.' Nothing wrong or shameful about relapse, I'm shocked always that it landed.' Jon realised his "obsession" had eased while caring for Olivia - with whom he has Malcolm, three, and Mai, eight months - after her double mastectomy and not being concerned about handling her strong medication. He said: 'I remember one day she's in bed. She had the 10-hour double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, and she still has more to go. "I brought her a tray with apple juice, something she wanted to eat that her mom had made in the kitchen, and then it had Oxycontin and some sort of nerve medication and a Xanax, which they also gave just for rest and recovery. 'It never crossed my mind that I was holding these medications in my hand. The obsession of it was gone. I thought, 'Oh, I'm so far beyond that, and I can be a good butler with the best client.' ' Ted asked John if he ever feels "aggrieved" enough to be tempted by drugs, or if he can spot the triggers from "two miles out". He replied: 'Oh yeah … I'm very lucky that life's been so great that it's always 30 miles out. But I'll be doing something and I go, 'Huh, you really want to be this exhausted, stretched thin, a little aggrieved?' 'Luckily those things are miles and miles off … That's part of it, is just always knowing, so addicted to the self-control of it in some ways and so happy that I'm always present when I'm with my kids and Olivia and friends and everything.' While John noted there will always be his struggles inside him, he's thankful they are no longer part of his everyday life. He said: 'I was in a bad neighbourhood of my brain for a while. You always have respect for it, that it's still there. You go, 'I see you. I know you're there. But that's not my daily life.' ' Though he is proud of his own sobriety, John is particularly proud of how Olivia has handled her health problems. He said: 'I always look back to when she was diagnosed in April, through that whole year, she wasn't just courageous. She was fun. "We had so much fun, it was so weird. So, it wasn't just the courage of it. She also was just always her greatest, best self throughout it.'

'I remember one day she's in bed. She had the 10-hour double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, and she still has more to go,' John, 42, recalled to Ted Danson on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast May 21. 'And I brought her a tray with apple juice, something she wanted to eat that her mom had made in the kitchen, and then it had Oxycodone and some sort of nerve medication and a Xanax, which they also gave just for rest and recovery.' 'I will admit it's a huge change,' the Everybody's Live host added. 'Just a huge way of looking at everything. And I'm shocked I did it. I'm shocked I was able to do it. Become sober. '[I'm] always so addicted to the self-control of it in some ways,' he shared. 'And so happy that I'm always present when I'm with my kids and Olivia and friends and everything.'
