New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been able to travel to Gangtok on Thursday to participate in the 'Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth' programme, marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's statehood, due to inclement weather, officials stated. PM Modi was scheduled to arrive in the state around 11 AM and lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several key development projects to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and overall growth in Sikkim. Instead, the Prime Minister will address the people of Sikkim through a video conference from West Bengal's Bagdogra. Major initiatives include a new 500-bed district hospital in Namchi worth over Rs 750 crore, a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling, Gyalshing district, and the unveiling of a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok district. Additionally, he will release a commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and postal stamp to mark the golden jubilee. According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Prime Minister will also visit West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30, inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of development projects worth more than Rs 70,000 crore. PM Modi will also be visiting West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 70,000 crore. In a social media post announcing his visit on Wednesday, PM Modi said, 'Over the next two days, I will be attending programmes in Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The development works that will commence over the next two days will bring innumerable benefits for people and strengthen our resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.' The Prime Minister is to lay the foundation stone of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project for Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts on Thursday. The Rs 1,010 crore project will supply Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to over 2.5 lakh households and more than 100 commercial establishments and industries, and establish around 19 CNG stations. (ANI)

The event is part of a year-long celebration themed 'Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim,' highlighting the state's rich cultural and natural heritage. PM Modi is scheduled to arrive around 11 AM and will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several key development projects to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and overall growth in Sikkim. Major initiatives include a new 500-bed district hospital in Namchi worth over Rs 750 crore, a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling, Gyalshing district, and the unveiling of a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok district. Speaking to ANI, Sonam Bhutia, a resident, said, 'We are very excited. It is a big achievement that our Prime Minister is coming to our state.' Another resident, Tikha Khannal, shared her excitement and told ANI, 'I am here to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a Lakhpati Didi. We, the people of Sikkim, are thrilled that PM Modi is visiting our state today... We have made comprehensive arrangements for his visit. Even the weather supports us today, as it was hot here yesterday.' Dibash Rutung, dressed in traditional Gurung community attire, added, 'I am wearing the traditional outfit of Sikkim's Gurung community... We want to showcase it to the Prime Minister... We are thrilled that the PM is visiting Sikkim today.' State BJP President DR Thapa said that the people of Sikkim eagerly await the Prime Minister's visit. He said the visit would begin new opportunities and developmental projects for the state. 'He will inaugurate many infrastructural projects across Sikkim and lay the foundation of several upcoming initiatives,' Thapa said. According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Prime Minister will also visit West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30, inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of development projects worth more than Rs 70,000 crore. As part of the celebrations, the Sikkim government has launched a year-long series of events under the theme 'Sunaulo, Samriddha and Samarth Sikkim' - Golden, Prosperous, and Capable Sikkim - aimed at showcasing the state's rich traditions, natural beauty, and historical legacy. During his visit, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several development projects, including a 500-bed district hospital in Namchi district, built at a cost of over Rs 750 crore. He will also inaugurate a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling, Gyalshing district, and unveil a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Amrit Udyan in Sangkhola, Gangtok district. In honour of his visit, a special luncheon was hosted by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who warmly welcomed Prasad and engaged in a meaningful conversation reflecting on his time in office. The discussion touched upon his tenure in Sikkim, the deep emotional bond he continues to share with the people, and his lasting admiration for the state's natural beauty and cultural richness. 'It was a pleasure and an honour to meet Ganga Prasad Ji once again,' said the Chief Minister. 'His presence always evokes a strong sense of connection, and it is heartening to hear his fond memories of Sikkim', he added.
