The White Stripes get Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination for 2nd time
The White Stripes will vie once again for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame laurels.
The Detroit band was among 14 nominees named Wednesday as the rock hall looks toward its autumn ceremony in Los Angeles. The group was previously nominated in 2023 — its first year of eligibility — but failed to make that year's final class of inductees.
The 2025 contenders include first-time nominees Bad Company, the Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast and Phish. The list is rounded out by returnees Mariah Carey, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis and Soundgarden.
If inducted, the White Stripes would become the 22nd Detroit artist enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's performers wing since the institution began in 1986. A myriad of other Detroit figures have been inducted in separate categories, most recently the MC5 and Motown's Norman Whitfield, both inducted last year via the rock hall's Award for Musical Excellence.
The rock hall's 2025 inductees will be announced in late April after voting by 1,200-plus music professionals and historians. A fan vote will also weigh into the selections, and that process is up and running at
The White Stripes, founded by guitarist-vocalist Jack White and drummer Meg White, led a Detroit rock revival in the late '90s and went on to become a global force via albums such as 'White Blood Cells' and 'Elephant,' along with the anthem 'Seven Nation Army.'
The duo disbanded in 2011, though Jack White has maintained a successful solo music and business career, including his Third Man vinyl operation in Midtown Detroit.
