‘The White Lotus' Costume Designer Alex Bovaird on Season 3's Style Stars and How to Get Their Looks

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, The Hollywood Reporter may receive an affiliate commission. Judging from the wave of collabs that have already dropped (and sold out), White Lotus Thailand is shaping up as this season's fashion inspiration. More from The Hollywood Reporter The Woven Bag Jennifer Lawrence and Gisele Bündchen Can't Stop Carrying These Hollywood Beauty Pro-Approved Essentials and Star-Owned Brands Are On Sale at Sephora's Spring Savings Event Gap's Muppets Collection Is Nostalgic and Delightfully Understated While the legendary Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge) and her larger-than-life floral maxi dresses are — spoiler alert — sadly missing from season three, the Southeast Asia-set installment's hotel guests are already style icons in their own right. Costume designer Alex Bovaird has been responsible for the Emmy-winning HBO/Max series' wardrobes since season one, and she tells The Hollywood Reporter that her favorites so far are the 'girlie duos. Olivia and Paula [Sydney Sweeney and Brittany O'Grady] from season one, Mia and Lucia [Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Grannò] from season two and now Chloe and Chelsea in season three!' Related: Counting All of The White Lotus Collections From Bloomingdale's, Banana Republic and More (Exclusive) Bovaird dressed White Lotus Thailand guests in labels from around the world: European fashion houses such as Valentino, Hermès, Lanvin and Jacquemus alongside Bangkok-based silk label Jim Thompson (the presumed late entrepreneur had a Hollywood-worthy story of his own), Hong Kong-based designer Marie France Van Damme (whose pieces can be shopped in L.A. at Peninsula Beverly Hills), Australia-based Zimmermann, Paris-based Mes Demoisselles and Corsica-based swimwear designer Tara Matthews. 'We mix our favorites that will always be suited to the White Lotus resort vibe — Valentino, Poupette St Barth, Lunaflo London,' Bovaird tells The Hollywood Reporter over email. 'They fit the show so well because they are romantic and fun. Hermès has some insanely gorgeous resort clothes and bags, and I've always wanted to use David Webb jewelry — a little bit eccentric and old school glamour. Jim Thompson and Marie France were local finds, such perfect fabrics and silks for the tropics.' Viewers saw a slew of stylish guests check into White Lotus Thailand in the first episode, including the the girl tripper trio made up of actress Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), burnt-out executive Laurie Duffy (Carrie Coon) and Texas socialite Kate Bohr (Leslie Bibb); and the Southern Ratliff clan consisting of Loraaaahzepam-loving matriarch Victoria (Parker Posey), financier father Timothy (Jason Isaacs), eldest finance-bro Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Buddhist daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and slouchy youngest son Lochlan (Sam Nivola). There's also the free-spirited British bohemian Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) and her moody, Hawaiian shirt-loving boyfriend, Rick Hatchett (Walton Goggins); glamorous Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon), the Quebec-bred girlfriend of Gary/Greg (Jon Gries) and visiting White Lotus Hawaii spa manager Belinda Lindsey (Natasha Rothwell). Bovaird tapped West Village-based artist Scooter LaForge to create hand-painted tees for Chelsea and Chloe's party moments. The costume designer also teamed with H&M on a now-sold-out capsule collection inspired by the series, and the show has debuted collabs with Banana Republic, Brunch, Away, Abercrombie & Fitch and many other brands. The White Lotus Thailand cast also wear pieces from contemporary labels such as Johnny Was, My Beachy Side, Ciao Lucia and many others. Fans of The White Lotus also get a peek of the staff's off-duty looks. In addition to Belinda, the Southeast Asian resort's staff includes health mentor Mook (Blackpink superstar Lisa, credited as Lalisa Manobal), security officer Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong), Russian expat Valentin (Arnas Fedaravičius), resort owner Sritala Hollinger (Patravadi Mejudhon) and hotel manager Fabian (Christian Friedel). The season three finale of The White Lotus airs on Sunday at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET on HBO and streams on Max. But with one final episode left, Blackpink fans are left wondering if they'll ever see Mook out of her khaki co-ords. 'She's mostly in her cute uniforms, but you'll have to wait and see,' Bovaird reveals of her off-duty ensembles. As for the season three guests at the top of her list? 'Chloe's Jacquemus custom fits are so striking and chic, and Chelsea is a boho queen,' says Bovaird. 'I'm also obsessed with Rick's shirts and floppy linen pants with leather sandals. Fabian [played by Christian Friedel] is a fashion star, a little overlooked I fear.' For those heading to a tropical locale soon, Bovaird has a few words of advice after living in Thailand while working on The White Lotus. 'Bathing suit tops instead of bras! So helpful and real,' she suggests. 'Classic straw hats from Mon Panama, handmade sandals from a foot tracing (get them over in Thailand), viscose dresses, linen shirts and vintage aloha shirts. Thai fisherman-style pants and elephant pants — give into them!' Ahead, we've rounded up the best White Lotus outfit ideas featuring official fashion collabs and pieces seen on screen. Though many of the exact past-season designer pieces from The White Lotus season three are no longer available, pre-loved options can be found at Vestiaire Collective, the Real Real, Rebag, eBay and other designer resale marketplaces. Buy at MyTheresa $429.60 Joanna Ortiz is known for her eclectic prints inspired by her native Colombia. We imagine she'd reach for many of the items from Banana Republic's official The White Lotus collection, such as this matte silk cowl neck maxi dress. $295 at Amazon Laurie wears a (now out of stock) Zimmermann one-piece — Patbo's plunge neckline swimsuit gives the same luxe aesthetic. $325 at Nordstrom Helen Kaminski's packable raffia hat shades Laurie from the sun in episode four. $2,995 at Fashionphile $1,956 and up at The Realreal $3,016 and up at Vestiaire Collective Laurie's Goyard Goyardine Alpin Mini backpack also gets soaked during the Songkram scene. Actress Jaclyn Lemon (Michelle Monaghan) is the bohemian-leaning designer label lover of the girls' trip trio, often wearing logo-happy pieces from Valentino and Gucci. $710 at Gucci Gucci's GG print straw bucket hat is a shorter version of the canvas one — first released by the Italian fashion house in 2023 — seen on Jaclyn. $2,800 at Valentino $2,800 at Neiman Marcus $250 at banana republic Jaclyn has a penchant for bold prints, and this cotton wrap dress from The White Lotus' official Banana Republic collection is a perfect fit for her wardrobe. $685 at Neiman Marcus Jaclyn wore an orange assymetrical swimsuit similar to this one by luxe resort brand Eres beneath a sheer maxi dress from the Chanel archives. $320 at Poupette St. Barth Poupette St. Barth was behind the three-piece look seen on Jaclyn — and though the original kimono, bandeau top and shorts are sold out, this ruffled dress from the label is a vacay-ready stand-in. $250 at Same Jaclyn throws a Valentino button-down shirt over this Same colorblock one-piece. $385 at Sun Child While Bovaird dressed other characters in Sun Child's beach-boho pieces, we also envision Jaclyn in this Studio 54-inspired caftan from the breezy brand. $495 at Nordstrom Jaclyn's movie star style includes sparkling sequin mini dresses. This statement-making Ramy Brook stunner is similar to a Valentino silhouette seen on the show. $150 at Same Jaclyn wears a striped version of Same's rosette triangle bikini top and matching bottom. $395 at L'Agence Jaclyn is also seen in a number of flowy floral kimonos over her swimsuits, so it's likely that she'd approve of L'Agence's Kara cover-up. $9,500 at Net-a-porter Jaclyn totes her pool essentials in the large version of Bottega Veneta's Cabat intrecciato leather tote. $285 at Naghedi Another budget-minded (and perhaps water-friendlier) option for the style above? Go for Naghedi's St. Barths medium tote made of neoprene. The self-professed conservative of the trio, Californian-turned-Texan Kate Bohr (Leslie Bibb) showcases her Southern socialite sensibility through attention-grabbing hues, bold prints and textures. $128 at bloomingdale's Kate is often seen in swingy, pleated silhouettes. Aqua's metallic knit halter midi dress (from the official White Lotus collab) would be right at home in her Koh Samui closet. $585 $3,755 84% off buy at Yoox $2,579 at Farfetch Splurge on this decadent Lanvin pleated dress to channel Kate's evening-in-Thailand look in the first episode. $725 at camila Yet another fashionable White Lotus collab, Camilla's one-shoulder dress would be a sartorial match for Kate's luxe tastes. $101 $182 45% off Buy at Revolve Kate gets soaked during Thailand's Songkran celebration in a sold-out cutout dress by Alemais. For a similar look, try Luli Fama's tropical print minidress. $1,500 at Marie France Van Damme Marie France Van Damme's luxurious resortwear makes many appearances in The White Lotus, including on Kate, who sports this silver and black lamé jacquard silk caftan. $260 at Nordstrom $260 at Shopbop If you're thinking, 'WWKW?' (What would Kate wear?), she'd likely reach for Farm Rio's Tropical Swing Midi Dress given jer penchant for pink, prints and anything loud luxury. You don't need to splurge to emulate Kate's plunging neckline looks. Demi Moore-approved label Andie's Mykonos one-piece is similar to items she's worn throughout the season. $119 at Juillet Kate was an instant poolside style star when she stepped out in Juillet's Luisa bottoms and Lulu bikini top (with a vintage sheer top that was a perfect match). Shop Beckett Top, $138 Shop Kimber Bottom, $98 For a bolder take on Kate's floral swim set, Cleobella's Foraged Violets print on this bikini top and high-waisted bottom makes a splash at the beach or pool. When she's not studying White Lotus Thailand's spa program under (ahem) the guidance of her counterpart, WL Hawaii spa manager Belinda Lindsey (Natasha Rothwell) steps out of her uniform and into a kaleidoscope of tropical print dresses and lightweight caftans. $298 at Saks Fifth Avenue Belinda's exact Johnny Was floral cotton and silk coverup is sold out, but the bohemian brand offers plenty of other print-happy alternatives — like this black and pink V-neck kaftan dress. $98 at bloomingdale's We can see Belinda wearing this fun fringe cover-up from Aqua's White Lotus collab at Bloomingdale's. $1,300 at Everything But Water $ Belinda wears a pink and green hand-beaded floral kaftan with flowing striped sleeves by Verandah, and the brand's maxi dress has the same print in a sleeveless style. $198 at Lilly Pulitzer Belinda's original Lilly Pulitzer dress is no longer available, but the iconic American resortwear brand's best-selling Wisteria maxi dress in the Multi Totally Koalified colorway is a close second. $290 at Jim Thompson In episode two, Belinda wows in Jim Thompson's luxurious cockatoo print silk dress. Though Blackpink fans don't get a chance to see Mook (Lalisa Manobal, aka Lisa) outside of her kakhis, the White Lotus Thailand health mentor gets the chance to show her personal style in a few scenes. $89 at Mitr Thailand label Mitr's Poisson Cru Midi Dress was one of the lucky few to dress Mook off duty. $425 at Fleur Du Mal A luxurious, lingerie-inspired alternative to Mook's dress comes in the form of star-loved label Fleur du Mal's dreamy silk floral dress. $159 at LilySilk This contrast trim blouse from Hollywood stylist Elizabeth Stewart's collab with Lilysilk perfectly captures Mook's utilitarian work uniform (but make it silk and chic). Who Is Walton Goggins' Rick on ‘The White Lotus' Season 3? What Really Happened to His Dad

Walton Goggins' Rick Hatchett character on The White Lotus season 3 has been a huge enigma with a mysterious past. Life & Style takes a look at what has been revealed so far about Rick, including what really happened to his dad. Walton's Rick arrived with the rest of the guests for a stay at the White Lotus Thailand in the show's season 3 opening episode on February 16, 2025, along with his much-younger girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood). The purpose of their trip wasn't initially revealed, although Rick appeared miserable from the start. He didn't want to socialize and kept pulling away from Chelsea, despite her best efforts to get him to enjoy their time in paradise. Chelsea immediately signed Rick up for a session with wellness therapist Amrita (Shalini Peiris), where he opened up about his lifelong trauma involving his parents. He revealed that his mother was a drug user who died when he was 10 years old, and she told him his father was murdered before he was born. As a result of not having a father's love growing up, Rick ended up a broken man. In his scene with Amrita, Rick made it clear that his mom told him about his dad's murder and who the killer might be from her deathbed. Thus, it appeared he had fully taken his late mother's word about his father's identity, and that of his murderer. Rick believed that his father went to Thailand before his birth to help locals from being taken advantage of by Jim Hollinger, the eventual coowner of the White Lotus Thailand. He thinks Jim could be his father's killer or had something to do with his death. However, some fans have speculated that Jim might actually turn out to be Rick's dad. Upon arriving at the White Lotus, Rick immediately started sniffing around to find out where he could find Jim. He was devastated to find out that only Jim's wife, Sritala Hollinger (Lek Patravadi), was at the resort, as the coowner was away recuperating after suffering a stroke. Rick made plans to fly to Bangkok after finding out that was where he could find Jim. The con man made up a story to Sritala that he was working on a film and the director wanted to meet with the former Thai actress for the project. Before departing for Bangkok, Rick finally told Chelsea why he had to leave the resort and that the reason they went to Thailand was so he could track down the man responsible for his father's death. "The guy ruined my f--king life from day one, he doesn't have to answer to me? I just need to look in his face and I need to tell him what he did to me ... while he's still alive," he told Chelsea while not revealing what he intended to do when confronting Jim. Rick then enlisted the help of a shady expat friend in Bangkok named Frank, played by Sam Rockwell. Rick convinced Sritala that his director pal needed to see her at home to better write her character, and she agreed to their visit. While Frank provided Rick with a gun upon his arrival in Bangkok, he made him promise not to bring it to Sritala and Jim's house as he'd left his life of crime behind. At the end of episode 6, Frank and Rick arrived at Sritala and Jim's home by boat, with armed guards present. Rick finally came face to face with Jim, who was seen out of focus walking down the stairs. Veteran actor Scott Glenn was cast in The White Lotus season 3 in 2024, although his part was never revealed. Fans immediately picked up on his legendary deep voice in the final shot of episode 6 while he heard but not clearly seen. Rick looked at Jim while visibly shaken about finally coming face to face with who he believes killed his dad. During his session with Amrita, Rick confessed to "doing a lot of bad things" although he didn't go any deeper into his character's seemingly shady profession. He added, "And I can't get my life back. But maybe I can still get some satisfaction," which seemed to hint that he was seeking revenge on the man who killed his father. While Rick proved he's an effective con man in how he was able to convince Sritala he was a Hollywood insider, he hinted at some shadier work during dinner with wealthy expat resident Gary (John Gries) and his much-younger girlfriend, Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon). When Rick asked Gary what he did for a living, he cryptically answered "This and that." Rick replied to Greg that he did the same thing for a living, noting, "this and that" is a good line of work. While it wasn't revealed how Rick was able to afford his stay at the high-end White Lotus resort with the other ultra-wealthy guests, Chelsea managed to get their entire stay comped after she was the victim of a gun-toting robber in the hotel's boutique during episode 2.

‘The White Lotus' Star Walton Goggins Unpacks Rick's ‘Unbelievable Drive' After Episode 4 Reveal: ‘There Are Consequences'

Note: This story contains spoilers from 'The White Lotus' Season 3, Episode 4. After a thorough amount of poking and prodding from Aimee Lou Wood's Chelsea in 'The White Lotus' Season 3, Walton Goggin's Rick finally peeled back his layers, revealing the real reasons for their vacation in Thailand. In Episode 4, Rick tells Chelsea the real reason he chose this hotel as their destination: the owner of the White Lotus Thailand murdered his father. The owner was supposed to be in town during their stay, though a last minute change brought him to Bangkok, forcing Rick to shift his plans to travel to the city. '[He's] motivated by the need to sit in front of this guy and have him bear witness to the pain that he had caused [him],' Goggins told TheWrap. 'To be able to say that to them, see them hear it — God, what an unbelievable opportunity, what an unbelievable drive.' That drive is what first stood out to Goggins when he read the scripts for the season, which creator Mike White asked him to read in full before committing to the role. Goggins recalled 'deeply empathiz[ing]' with 'this person at this age who has lived this life for so long, [who] had an opportunity to have a much greater journey on this earth, and that was taken by this person that his mother told him about.' His father's murder is the reason why Rick has become someone in 'so much pain, somebody who's been running from his life for so long and somebody who is so angry and so bitter and wants to understand why he is where he is,' according to Goggins. Moreover, Goggins notes that Rick's 'moral code' translates into there being 'consequences for that decision,' though Goggins remained tight-lipped on what those consequences could be, and if Rick has the intention of killing his father's murderer. Goggins also pointed out how Rick has something to learn from Buddhist teachings, noting 'the first tenet of Buddhism is life is suffering.' 'It's a part of your life that is suffering — identifying what that part is, the rest of the world around you is still beautiful, but we can't see that,' Goggins said. 'The lessons that this guy learns, and that hopefully the audience learns, is something that resonated very deeply with me and something that I'm very proud to have been a part of.' After playing a handful of 'loquacious' characters with charisma, Goggins was attracted to Rick's quiet nature, saying 'I have played roles like this, but never quite like this.' 'If you understand the world from their point of view and his perspective, it's very quiet and it is very reserved because of his state of mind, and who he is as a person, and understand the way that he has moved through the world on the fringes of society,' Goggins said. 'He's a mystery to himself.' As Goggins balanced production on 'Fallout,' where he plays The Ghoul, a bounty hunter who survived nuclear holocaust, and HBO's 'The Righteous Gemstones,' where he stars as a 70s-something hustler and former child star, he said his time shooting 'The White Lotus' was replenishing. 'My heart needed it, my soul needed and I hope that it speaks to people,' Goggins said. 'The White Lotus' airs Sundays on HBO and Max. ‘The White Lotus' wants you to look the part

'The White Lotus' is back, baby! As the season progresses, we can't wait to soak up those quotable bon mots, to envy the lush bungalows of Thailand, to shake our heads at the immoral multimillionaires and to ... get the look? The frenzy of this new season, the third of Mike White's startling satire of the ultrarich on vacation, arrived with a record number of collaborative tie-ins. There are Away suitcases in beige, complete with lotus flower lining; Kiehl's body lotion and face oil, gussied up with White Lotus branding and arriving in a raffia White Lotus tote bag. Abercrombie & Fitch can help you look like a White Lotus guest in a striped shirt and matching beach pants (or a staff member in a White Lotus Thailand graphic T-shirt, already sold out). An Australian caftan brand called Camilla has a whole line of floral printed gowns for pool- and oceanside lounging. H & M and Bloomingdale's have also created collections. Banana Republic, whose dress was worn by Parker Posey's Southern pill-popper Victoria Ratliff in the season's first episode, may have gone further than anyone, with a capsule of safari suiting, animal print separates and floral print ensembles for men and women, to be released early next month. The mall brand's head of marketing, Meena Anvary, described the collection in a news release as 'both aspirational and attainable,' adding that 'it embodies the spirit of adventure.' And the spirit of murder? That, after all, is the real crux of this formulaically quixotic series: we open with a cadaver reveal, and then we while away several days with immoral, bad, and sometimes just lazy or lost people, trying to guess which one of them gets offed and who, if anyone, dunnit. To be clear, 'The White Lotus' is no morality play. It is a guilty pleasure, one that found traction amid pandemic-era cabin fever and the resulting lust for travel, twinned with a revived obsession with tracking the behaviors and style of the one percent. And the costumes, by Alex Bovaird, help tell this story. They are genius, but the reveal is subtle. The frenzied ugliness of Portia, Season 2's Gen Z assistant to Jennifer Coolidge's permanently lunching out Tanya McQuoid, is perhaps her greatest achievement, putting a finger on how 20-somethings dress before any journalist (or parent) could wrap their head around it. But just as interesting are Lani's mayonnaise stain on her shirt in Season 1, which Armond frets over obsessively while missing that she's gone into labor; the Dior swimsuits purchased by the Italian sex workers from the hotel gift shop in the second season, which winkingly suggest that the obsessive rules about what the rich and wannabe-rich wear are really nonexistence; and businessman Cameron's ridiculous Etro outfits after his luggage is lost. Remember Tanya dressing up as Monica Vitti and the sarcastic hotel manager Valentina telling her she looks like Peppa Pig? This is a show about the delusions of the wealthy, with a particularly astute and contemporary lens on the way people, whether rich or trying to seem like it, use clothing to give their lives meaning or texture. This season, we already have sartorial intrigues brewing — just what is the deal with the incestuous suggestions of those three Southern siblings, and why is the sister, mocked by her older brother for appearing to be sexually inexperienced, wearing all those vaguely Amish schmattas? While HBO's 'Succession' chronicled characters with hang-ups about their status in the world and, perhaps more important, within their family, 'The White Lotus' shows the wealthy in their most solipsistic element. Nothing gets people shopping like planning for a vacation — it is a moment for escapism and role-playing. So you costume yourself. But whether these characters look silly or great, the show encourages viewers to revile these people. It mocks them. The rare characters above reproach are the staff, the working stiffs. Yes, part of White's genius is that he shows sympathy even for terrible people, like his beloved Tanya. But he is also willing to make their deaths into pratfalls. Which brings us back to these collabs. Why would a show that compels us to loathe these characters push us to dress like them? Of course, nothing comes into this world anymore without an attendant selection of merch. There is never enough money to be made. And the aspirational ploys of the show are so obvious it's almost beyond comment — the resorts at which the show films become outrageously popular following their appearance on the show, despite the fact that they are all stage sets for notorious deaths. In real life, can you imagine a murder inspiring people to visit a hotel? But perhaps this is White's ultimate grimace-grin reveal. Victoria's Banana Republic dress, marked down from $150 to $39.97, sold out almost immediately after fans identified it. We hate the rich — and there is no one we would rather look like.

If you've been dreaming of checking into 'The White Lotus' ' latest luxurious retreat, you're not alone. Season 3 of the hit HBO series took its signature mix of satire and scandal to Thailand, with the stunning Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui as its backdrop. "With 'The White Lotus' Season 3 set to captivate audiences worldwide, travelers can already start envisioning their own Thai adventure," Chompu Marusachot, the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's New York Office, said in a statement. TAT New York even launched a site, offering a virtual journey through the locations featured on screen (Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok). But, just how lavish is the "White Lotus Thailand" – and how much does a stay actually cost? Here's what you need to know about the show's newest five-star setting, plus a look back at the hotels from past seasons. Nestled amidst lush tropical greenery and overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui offers guests an idyllic escape. The resort features private villas, each equipped with its own pool or beach access, providing an intimate and opulent experience. Amenities include the Secret Garden Spa, known for its holistic treatments, and the Koh Thai Kitchen & Bar, which offers authentic Thai cuisine with panoramic ocean views. Staying at this exclusive resort comes with a premium price tag. The rate for a one-bedroom villa from Feb. 16-17 starts at approximately $2,441, including fees but not taxes. Like most hotels, pricing is modular and based on the season and availability. The resort also offers residence rentals for those looking for an extended stay. Prices are available upon request. The allure of 'The White Lotus' is enhanced by its opulent settings, often used as juxtapositions to the show's class commentary. Both previous seasons also featured Four Seasons hotels. Season 1: Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Hawaii: The oceanfront property is celebrated for its pristine beaches, world-class spa and dining options. The average price for a garden-view executive suite from Feb. 16-17 starts at approximately $2,735. Season 2: San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, Sicily: Perched atop cliffs with sweeping views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, the former 14th-century convent offers a unique blend of history and luxury. The average price for a garden-view executive suite from March 2-3 starts at approximately $1,352. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Is The White Lotus Thailand real?
