Warm and sunny stretch continues this week

We are picking up things right where we left off over the weekend. High pressure will keep us dry and sunny. Warmth will continue to start the new week too. High temperatures in the 80s will be widespread. Fire danger will be high today mainly to the north and in Nebraska. Furnas County in Southwest Nebraska will be under a Fire Weather Warning from 11am to 9pm. We will begin to see some highs in the 90s tomorrow in Western Kansas. This unseasonable heat will slide east into Central Kansas by Wednesday. We will lose some of this warmth the latter part of the week but high temperatures will still be near and above average in the 70s and 80s. Not much rain is expected this week. There will be a few showers and storms nearby to the northwest late Tuesday and late Wednesday. Most of us will be dry through Friday. Rain and storm chances will rise over the weekend, especially Saturday night and Sunday. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Ronelle Williams: Wichita:Today: Mostly sunny. Monday severe risk, more storm chances this week

The start to the new week will be warm and windy. Today's conditions have prompted Fire Weather Warnings for portions of Western Kansas. Monday will also be a weather aware day due to the potential for severe weather. This threat will mainly be late in the day and during the evening. This morning and into the afternoon there will be a small chance for a passing shower or thundershower. Once we get into the evening we will need to keep a close eye on areas around and east of the Kansas Turnpike. This where the best chance for showers and thunderstorms will last through the night and into Tuesday. Our active and unsettled pattern continues Tuesday. Some showers and storms will mainly impact the Southeast corner of the area. After a cold front moves through it will stall out to our southeast. A chance for severe weather will only impact a select few to the south and east. Tuesday will be noticeably cooler after the cold front moves through. Some showers and storms will keep working their way into the area from the south as the front to the southeast starts to work its way back in our direction. Similar to last week there will be a chance for rain and rumbles through the rest of the week, with the exception of Friday which is when we will get a brief break. Storm Track 3 Forecast: Warming temp trend, spotty mid-week rain chances

Mild morning with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. We will warm into the 60s this afternoon, seasonal for this time of year but well below the heat we saw over the weekend. Winds will be breezy out of the north today. A few gusts over 30 MPH will be possible through the afternoon, with winds relaxing after sunset. Fire Weather Warnings are in place for parts of northcentral Kansas through 9 PM. Sunny skies lead us into Tuesday with warming temperatures. Highs will range from the upper 60s to the low 70s across the state. Our next chance for moisture arrives late Tuesday night into Wednesday as a piece of energy tracks through the state. Rainfall amounts will be meager, but better chances of widespread showers producing beneficial moisture will arrive for the weekend. Temperatures continue to roller coaster this week with highs jumping back into the upper 80s and 90s on Thursday before cooling off back into the 60s on Saturday. Southeastern Kansas has been included in the Slight Risk for severe weather for this Friday, as a strong storm system could produce strong winds and hail. Rainfall will stick around for much of the weekend. Widespread showers and storms will roll through the Sunflower State. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Lucy Doll: Wichita:Today: Partly cloudy, breezy. Hi: 66 Wind: N/NW 10-20Tonight: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Storm Track 3 Forecast: All forms of severe weather possible Tuesday evening

After a mild Monday, storm chances will increase tomorrow. An Enhanced Risk for severe weather is in place for parts of central and eastern Kansas. The rest of the region will be under Slight Risk. All forms of severe weather will be possible. Temperatures will warm ahead of the approaching boundary. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s for most of the region as strong southerly winds help pull warmer air into the Sunflower State. Northwest Kansas will be the coolest with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s as they will be the first to see the front pass overhead. Fire Weather Watches and Warnings are in place for a large part of western Kansas from 10 AM through 10 PM Tuesday. With strong winds, dry conditions, and warm temperatures, it will not take much for any spark that starts to get out of control. Winds out of the south will be strong tomorrow. Widespread wind gusts from 40 to 50 MPH will be possible throughout the day. Wind Advisories are in place for most of central Kansas from 10 AM Tuesday through 1 AM Wednesday as gusty conditions follow us through the overnight. Southerly flow will also be working to bring moisture into the state. Moisture will be a key factor in our severe weather potential. As the front collides with the warm, moist, unstable airmass over central Kansas, storms will be able to form and quickly strengthen as they have all the fuel they will need to produce severe weather. We can expect to see rumbles of thunder begin to initiate after 6 PM. There will be two areas to watch, along the front itself and out ahead of the boundary. The isolated storms that will form out ahead of the main line will have the greatest potential of producing tornadoes. These storms will not have to compete for energy with any other storms and can quickly become supercells. All forms of severe weather will be possible tomorrow as storms track through the state. Winds over 70 MPH, tennis ball sized hail, and tornadoes will all be concerns. Now is the time to go over your severe weather plan and be prepared in the event of severe weather in your area tomorrow evening. The front will quickly track east during the late evening. Storms will form a line along the boundary, and straight line winds will become the primary concern. We could still see a spin up tornado or two along the leading line of storms. The good news is that the strong winds will propel the storms quickly out of the Sunflower State by early Wednesday morning. We dry out on Wednesday before an unsettled pattern arrives for the last half of the workweek. Better chances of widespread, beneficial rainfall will arrive for the upcoming weekend. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Lucy Doll: Wichita:Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy, breezy. Lo: 43 Wind: NE/SE 10-20Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, windy. 40% chance of thunderstorms. Hi: 73 Wind: SE/S 20-40Tomorrow Night: Mostly to partly cloudy, windy. 70% chance of thunderstorms. Next storm system brings high winds and rain/snow

With the exception of a breeze, we are off to a quiet start to the day. This is about to change as a strong storm system brings multiple hazards the next couple of days. We will be talking about many weather alerts through Tuesday. One that is currently in effect through 8am is a Dense Fog Advisory for Texas County in Oklahoma. Before more alerts go into effect, temperatures will be pleasant today. We will stay above freezing this morning before afternoon highs warm to the upper 50s, 60s, and low 70s. Due to the warmth, a strong breeze, and mainly dry conditions, Fire Weather Alerts will be in effect today to the west. There will be an increasing chance for rain by evening. A line of storms will develop in Central Kansas later this evening and track east through the overnight. Be prepared to experience severe weather. Damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado will be possible. Storms will be gone by the time many of us start our day tomorrow. However, the backside of this next storm system will begin to impact Western Kansas with a growing chance for snow to the northwest. Winter Weather Alerts will be in effect to the northwest. As much as 2″ to 4″ will be possible and strong winds will result in blizzard conditions. Lighter accumulations will be possible in the rest of the area as rain switches to a mix and snow late Tuesday. High Wind Alerts will be in effect across the entire area tomorrow. Wind gusts could get as high as 60 to 70 mph. Wet and wintry weather shifts east through the day. The severe threat will shift east too and does not look as favorable as the storms that we are expecting tonight. Moisture lasts into the overnight but will be gone by Wednesday morning. This next storm system will also shake up the temperature department Tuesday when highs range from the 30s to the 60s. Everyone will be cool Wednesday before we warm back up closer to the norm.
