Erie's Wild Rib Cook Off serving up ‘grill vibes' in Perry Square
Erie's Wild Rib Cook Off & Music Festival kicked off on Wednesday in Perry Square. The festival features national touring, award-winning barbeque teams. Rack 'em up! Preparations for Erie's Wild Rib Cook Off are underway The popular event is in its 32nd year and has more than just slow-cooked meats. Craft booths, beer and spirits, inflatable rides and live music also add to the fun. Teams from as far away as Arkansas, Virginia and South Carolina are taking part in the four-day festival. Splash Lagoon offering special ticket pricing for Erie Co. residents But there's also a local barbecue master looking to show up all the rest. 'We can hang with these guys. We absolutely can. We've proven that many years in a row that the local barbeque shops can compete with the national guys, so we're just here representing Erie,' said Michael Loveranes, owner of Outlaw Barbeque. Rack 'em up! Preparations for Erie's Wild Rib Cook Off are underway
The smell of ribs and the sounds of music will soon be taking over downtown Erie. Crews were busy setting up for Erie's Wild Rib Cook Off & Music Festival The event kicks off in Perry Square on Wednesday morning. Ribbers will be putting meat on the grills around three in the morning, so it will be cooked and ready by 11 a.m. Erie families celebrate Memorial Day with their favorite ice cream There will be 8 different rib teams and 41 different booths featuring vendors and crafters. 'It's one of the best events out there. We have ribs, it's free. We have music and spirit things for kids, and it's the kick-off to summer as far as we can see for the first festival for the season,' said Kathi Danielson, performance and event management for Rib Fest. The event runs from Wednesday until Saturday, opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 10 p.m. Outlaw Barbecue Revolution will be the lone local business that will be featured during Rib Fest.
