Tyndall Air Force Base schedules three-day burn to reduce wildfire risk
TYNDALL AIR FORCE, Fla. (WMBB) – Three days of prescribed burns are planned at the Tyndall Air Force Base, May 24-26.
According to a news release, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center and Wildland Fire Module will accomplish the prescribed burn in hopes of mitigating wildfires and restoring or improving wildlife habitat.
The burn will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, and end at approximately 6 p.m. It will spread around 3,000 acres North of Highway 98.

Sunday, May 25, the burn also begins at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 6 p.m. to cover 1,600 acres North of Highway 98, adjacent to Silver Flag.
Monday, May 26, the burn is set for the same hours and will cover approximately 2,200 acres North of Highway 98, adjacent to Silver Flag.
The southwest prediction of the winds should minimize smoke in sensitive areas, however, the burn will not be conducted if the wind directions change.
