Man held with Rs 1.5cr worth ambergris
Trichy: A 29-year-old man was arrested in Nagapattinam on Friday on charges of smuggling 1.5kg of ambergris (whale vomit) worth Rs 1.5 crore. The Velipalayam police said G Milton, from Vallavilai village in Vilavankodu in Kanyakumari district, was roaming with a bag near the Nagapattinam bus stand on Friday afternoon in a suspicious manner. Police stopped him and checked his bag and found the contraband. Upon further inquiry, police learned that Milton procured the substance near Kanyakumari. They handed him over to forest officials in Nagapattinam. Forest ranger G Athilingam booked Milton under the Wildlife Amendment Act . Milton was produced before a magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody. He was lodged in the district jail later. Further investigation is on.
