Man charged with drug trafficking in Inanam
KOTA KINABALU (June 6): A 29-year-old man was tentatively charged in the Magistrate's Court here with trafficking 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) weighing 61.6 grams.
No plea was recorded from the accused, Wilkie Wong, when he appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin.
Wong is accused of committing the offence near a police beat in Inanam at around 1.30am on May 29.
The charge falls under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act. If convicted, he faces the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with whipping.
The court fixed July 21 for re-mention of the case. Wong will remain in custody pending further proceedings.
