Sinkhole repairs to resume Tuesday in West Springfield
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Crews will resume construction Tuesday morning at the intersection of Maple Street and North Boulevard to repair a sinkhole located beneath a manhole cover. Pittsfield continues street improvement projects throughout the city According to Mayor Will Reichelt in a Facebook post Monday, the roadwork is expected to be completed by the end of the day Tuesday, May 27. During construction, the southbound lane will remain open, but northbound traffic will be detoured onto Grove Street. The sinkhole was discovered beneath a manhole cover, prompting the need for immediate infrastructure repair to ensure safety and prevent further road damage. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area and follow posted detour signs. West Springfield DPW launches new pothole machine
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The West Springfield DPW is working to improve roadways with its new pothole machine called a drag box. In a social media post by West Springfield Mayor Will Reichelt, the drag box efficiently patches larger areas with a much smoother finish compared to the old shovel-and-rake method. In addition, the equipment helps add a fresh layer of asphalt on smaller streets that may be delayed or overlooked. West Springfield DPW to begin Kings Highway valve project
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The West Springfield DPW Water Division is beginning a month-long project at the intersection of Kings Highway and Elm Street, which will result in traffic detours and changes to the area. Springfield crews put out car fire on I-291 west West Springfield Mayor Will Reichelt announced that the DPW will be replacing a water pressure control valve at the intersection, with work commencing Monday. The water control valve currently in place is one of four in the southeast section of West Springfield responsible for reducing water pressure, and was installed in the 1950s. Reichelt said that due to the valve's age, the Kings Highway Control Valve Project is crucial to keep water flowing for the community. Work will be underway between March 31 and April 25, during which time traffic detours will be in place. Drivers will be expected to take alternate routes, and local traffic will be permitted to navigate the area with the assistance of detail officers on-site. The DPW said that signs will be posted in the work zone to guide travelers. West Springfield celebrates community at Mayoral Ball
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The town of West Springfield celebrated their achievements Friday evening during the mayoral ball. The event taking place at the carriage house. Just last year, the town celebrated its 250th anniversary. Those in attendance say they enjoy coming together to celebrate their neighbors. Friday night's musical performance was made up of local middle school teachers who love their town and playing music for people in their community. Mayor Will Reichelt told 22News, 'This is my tenth year being mayor, being with everyone having a good time and just kind of let loose and celebrate.' The town of West Springfield has partnered with 'flash vote,' an online survey platform, to hear more from residents on who'd like to get involved. West Springfield single-family tax bill below state average
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Residents in West Springfield are seemingly less burdened by taxes. The Massachusetts Department of Revenue says families in West Springfield are spending about $2,800 less than other families across the state. Locally, West Springfield's tax bill is about $600 below the county average, offering a lower average single family tax bill than other cities such as Agawam, Holyoke, and Westfield.
