Check out the winners at the Reading-Berks Science and Engineering Fair 2025

Albright College's Bollman Gymnasium played host to some of the brightest scientific minds in Berks County this week. It was the site of the 73rd annual Reading-Berks Science and Engineering Fair, an event where 287 local students got a chance to show off their scientific projects and, hopefully, take home some hardware. Students in grades six through 12 were able to take part in the fair, competing in the senior division (grades nine through 12) or junior division (grades six through eight). The top two students from the senior division will represent Berks County at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair this May in Columbus, Ohio. The winners, school and project name follow: Senior division grand champion William Ferenchick, Wilson High School, Shrimp-Wrap: Fabrication and Characterization of a Strong, Compostable Chitosan Bioplastic Composite. Senior division champion Samson Evans, Muhlenberg High School, Using Lepomis macrochirus Fish Scales as Biological Indicators of Stream Health. Senior division reserve champion David Markwood, Muhlenberg High School, illumiLOGIC: Redefining Illumination through Multi-Sensor Integration. Eighth-grade champion Piper Miller, Conrad Weiser Middle School, Fruit Dehydration Affects Sugar Concentration and Preservation of Various Fruit Types. Seventh-grade champion Baron Unger, Conrad Weiser Middle School, The effects of different chemicals on a glow stick. Sixth-grade champion Violet Aman, Wilson Middle Southern School, Layers of Defense: How Spacing Affects Whipple Shield Performance.
