John McGlynn challenged Falkirk to 'do an Ipswich' by securing promotion
Falkirk manager John McGlynn revealed he had challenged his side to 'do an Ipswich' on day one of pre-season after his side clinched back-to-back promotions. A 3-1 win over Hamilton saw Falkirk follow up their unbeaten William Hill League One campaign with a Championship title success. McGlynn told BBC Scotland: 'First day back we said, 'Ipswich. Ipswich just went back to back. Ipswich done it, can we do it?' 'It's not something you come out in public and say. But we actually did. Reality is still reality but the guys have got enormous spirit. 'I am delighted for everyone in the football club.' Falkirk had dropped 11 points in the previous five games after conceding six late goals and there looked like there might be another sting in the tail when Scott Robinson gave relegated Accies an early lead. But Ethan Ross hit a double either side of the break and Falkirk fans were in party mood after Calvin Miller finished in off the post in the 71st minute. Bairns fans surrounded the pitch in stoppage time before launching a full-scale invasion on the final whistle 'It's an amazing feeling,' McGlynn said. 'We made it hard for ourselves over the last few weeks but it's all come to fruition. 'We made it hard for ourselves tonight but the lads showed enormous character. To come back in the game, control the game and dictate the game, play our football, and get the goals we deserved. 'I can't compliment the players highly enough. They have just been incredible. Coming up from League One, Invincibles, and just continuing from there. 'We had a stutter but we have come out on top and the league table never lies. And we have been there for a long time. 'We have come up a level, everyone knows how difficult the Championship is, and we have come out on top. 'It speaks volumes for the players that they could step up that level, continue to play at the standard. We have had many compliments about the way we have played.'Show less Get all the latest news from around the country Follow STV News Scan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country

Inverness Caledonian Thistle shareholders urged to back CVA proposal
Inverness shareholders have been urged to back a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) proposal aimed at allowing the club to exit administration and continue playing in William Hill League One. Caley Thistle were hit with a 15-point deduction in October as a result of their financial issues but Saturday's 3-0 win over Arbroath meant Scott Kellacher's side avoided relegation. Their next big hurdle is to get a CVA approved in May, with former chairman Alan Savage having been named as the preferred bidder earlier this month after his funding kept the club going this season. 'The Joint Administrators were delighted to see the club secure League One safety on Saturday,' read a statement from administrators BDO on Monday. 'This is a testament to everyone involved at the club and something all should feel very proud about. 'Now that this has been clarified, the administrators intend to hold a meeting on Thursday 22nd May to propose a Company Voluntary Arrangement for the creditors' consideration. 'If the CVA proposal is approved, it will allow the club to exit administration and retain its place in League One.' Read more: Savage's bid is subject to 100 per cent of the voting shares being transferred to his purchasing vehicle, all loan creditors being written off and an agreement with Inverness Caledonian Thistle Property Company to purchase land around the stadium. BDO reported that 'significant progress' had been made to fulfil the key conditions of the offer but that they all had to be in place prior to the meeting on May 22. The administrators warned shareholders that if they did not back the proposal, it could have grave consequences for the club. 'We would encourage all shareholders in particular to complete and return their stock transfer forms as soon as possible,' continued the statement. 'We would remind any shareholder who may be minded not to agree to the proposal that this may result in the offer being withdrawn, the assets sold to another entity and the club – should it survive – being demoted outside of the league structure. 'The existing entity would then ultimately be dissolved rendering all shares redundant.'

Annan confirmed in relegation play-off after Dumbarton defeat
Annan slumped to a 3-1 defeat at relegated Dumbarton, confirming their place in William Hill League One relegation play-offs. Ryan Blair put the home side ahead before half-time, with Annan seeing defender Scott Hooper sent off soon after the restart for a second caution. Although Tommy Goss equalised on the hour, goals from Tony Wallace and James Hilton settled matters. At the other end of the table, Cove Rangers confirmed their play in the promotion play-offs after a 2-2 draw with Kelty Hearts at Balmoral Stadium. Goals from Adam Emslie and Mitch Megginson, from the spot, had seemingly put Rangers in control, only for the visitors to hit back with two goals in the space of seven minutes just after the hour from Craig Johnston and Ross Cunningham. Queen of South saw off play-off rivals Stenhousemuir 2-0 at Palmerston Park to also make sure of their top-four spot. Inverness beat champions Arbroath 3-0, which mathematically secured their place in League One next season. Alloa came from behind to beat Montrose 2-1 with a late goal from Luke Rankin, which put them above Stenhousemuir into fourth place. Peterhead secured the League Two title with a 1-0 win over promotion rivals East Fife at Balmoor Stadium. Peter Pawlett's goal in the 29th minute proved enough for the win, which left the home side four points clear. Bonnyrigg Rose kept alive their hopes of staying up with a dramatic late 2-1 win over Spartans. Murray Aiken had put Rose ahead with 15 minutes left, only for Blair Henderson to level things up. Aaron Arnott, though, struck in stoppage time to leave Rose two points behind Forfar, who battled to a goalless draw at third-placed Edinburgh City.

(Photo by Ross Parker / SNS Group)⨠| SNS Group Celtic can become the next club to officially win their league providing they avoid defeat at Dundee United in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off. Brendan Rodgers' side are already champions elect due to their 15-point and +42 goal difference advantage over Rangers at the top of the standings, but a win or draw at Tannadice will see them formally declared Premiership champions for a fourth successive season with four matches to spare. Falkirk will also hope that Saturday delivers the Championship crown and a remarkable second consecutive promotion following their League One title success last season. The Bairns have led the way for most of the campaign but have been unable to get over the line with a run of just one win in their last four keeping the champagne on ice. John McGlynn's men approach the penultimate round of fixtures with a three point advantage over second-placed Livingston and a superior goal difference of +12, meaning they can put themselves on the brink of glory if they defeat Partick Thistle at Firhill in the Friday night kick-off. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Only a Livingston victory away to Hamilton in the Saturday 3pm kick-off would then prevent Falkirk from claiming the title, but their sizeable goal difference advantage would make it unlikely that the league leaders could be caught. (Photo by Rob Casey / SNS Group) | SNS Group Even a draw for Falkirk might be enough but would require Livingston to suffer an unlikely defeat at the hands of the already relegated Accies, who were condemned to the drop last week after being hit with a 15-point deduction for breaching several SPFL rules. Otherwise the title race will go to the final weekend. Down in League Two, everything could be decided in a top of the table clash at Balmoor Stadium when league leaders Peterhead host second-placed East Fife on Saturday. Only a point seperate the duo with Peterhead holding a slender advantage despite suffering a 4-0 defeat away to Elgin City last weekend which allowed East Fife to close the gap. Dick Campbell and his East Fife side will have other ideas, though, knowing that a victory would move them into pole position ahead of the final round of fixtures next weekend.
