Shepherd University hosts American Conservation Film Festival in Shepherdstown
SHEPHERDSTOWN, () — Some enterprising students in the Jefferson County region are taking their passion for the environment to the Silver Screen.
The American Conservation Film Festival kicked off Thursday at Shepherd University as a way to champion our natural resources.
President Trump's speech to Congress draws praise, criticism in western Maryland
Maryland high school student William O'Toole said the festival is 'impactful.'
'[It] brings a lot of awareness to people who don't know much about conservation and natural resources,' O'Toole said.
Student filmmaker Luis Rosa said the message of his documentary is 'taking care of our planet.'
'We must stop overusing our natural resources,' Rosa said.
Festival director Dan Trezise said the festival is focused on 'conserving our planet and loving our animals and doing what we can to make our place better.'
For high school student Aymond Thatch, the festival is special.'
'Having this festival in West Virginia – it's great,' Thatch said.
Fighting climate change brings activists to Hood College conference
Some of the films here have been nominated for Academy Awards and have been featured on PBS and the Discovery Channel.
