Man injured, family displaced following Franklin house fire

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — A fire involving a lawnmower not only left a Franklin man injured Wednesday afternoon, but it turned into a larger blaze that seriously damaged a home and displaced a family. The Franklin Fire Department said it was dispatched shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 to a single-story house along Peytonsville Road. The first unit arrived at the scene within three minutes and reportedly discovered a riding lawnmower on fire in the carport area, with flames spreading into the attic that connected the garage and the house. Mt. Juliet K-9 seriously injured in crash According to Franklin Fire Marshal Andy King, the fire started when a man was refueling his lawnmower shortly after using it, while the engine was still hot. The man was burned, but there's no word on the extent of his injuries. King said the blaze spread rapidly through the attic, but firefighters—including those from Williamson County who provided mutual aid—worked quickly to contain it, managing to knock it down in less than 30 minutes. The department described the home as 'no longer livable' because of the extent of the damage, which is estimated at $100,000. King said a local hotel is helping the family—which includes a woman, her adult brother, two adult children, and a dog—and providing accommodations. ⏩ King commended the swift, coordinated actions of all first responders at the scene and thanked Williamson County Fire, Williamson County Fire/Rescue, the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency, Williamson Health EMS, and the Franklin Police Department for their assistance. No additional details have been released about Wednesday afternoon's fire. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
