Warning issued for event scams in Williamston
WILLIAMSTON, S.C. (WSPA) – The Williamston Police Department issued a public warning for scams aimed at faking donations for an upcoming local event. Officers said that they received at least one report about an unknown person calling a local business and falsely claiming to represent the Town of Williamston, asking for donations for the upcoming 'Freedom Celebration' event. Other reports included fake social media posts asking for financial donations or sponsorships. The Williamston Police Department would like to remind the public that the Town of Williamston would not call individuals asking for donations, and that you should never offer personal or financial information to anyone over the phone or on social media. Traffic stop in Martin County leads to drug arrest and firearm seizure
MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Officials with the Martin County Sheriff's Office and the Williamston Police Department conducted a vehicle stop and took two men into custody. On Monday, March 24, 2025, at around 9:10 p.m., Deputy Cole Murphy attempted to stop a vehicle on US Hwy 64 near Bell Town Road. The vehicle soon came to stop after a brief pursuit, where a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of around 8 grams of crack cocaine, 2 ounces of marijuana, and Glock 9mm handgun. There were two suspects taken into custody. Darantaye Elijah Whitfield, 20, of Robersonville, NC. He was charged with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Misdemeanor Flee to Elude, Misdemeanor Failure to Stop for Blue Lights / Siren. He has a secured bond of $100,000. Jefton Jarquez Bynum, 24, of Aurora, NC. He was charged with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Williamston Police find two firearms in 16-year-old's vehicle; student transported to DJJ
Williamston police officers discovered two firearms- a Taurus 9mm handgun and a Scout .44 caliber rifle- during a search of a student's vehicle Wednesday at the Anderson District 1 and 2 Career and Technology Center. According to the Williamston Police Department, officers received a tip about a 16-year-old student possessing firearms at the Anderson District 1 and 2 Career and Technology Center. Officers investigated the situation and searched the student's vehicle, according to a press release from the Williamston Police Department. The firearms were confiscated, and the student was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice Holding Facility in Columbia. Student arrested for possessing firearms on Upstate school property

Police said they received a tip regarding a 16-year-old student possessing firearms at the Anderson District 1 and 2 Career and Technology Center, on Wednesday. Police said they discovered a Taurus 9mm handgun and a Scout .44 caliber rifle. The handgun was reportedly loaded. The student was arrested and was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice Holding Facility, in Columbia. They were charged with possession of firearms on school property.
