City celebrates opening of east Austin park with a ribbon cutting
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Parks and Recreation Department celebrated the opening of the Davis-White Northeast Neighborhood Park on Sunday. The park is located at 6705 Crystalbrook Drive, near the intersection of Manor Road and the 183 Toll Road.
According to a press release, the project included the replacement of the playscape for ages 5-12, the replacement of swings, an additional arch swing with a saucer-style swing set, ADA benches, and an interpretive marker.
The city said the park was renamed in 2007 after two Austin heroes, Captian Willie Ray Davis and Captain Louie White, who became the first African Americans appointed to leadership positions in the city of Austin fire and police departments, respectively.
The project was made possible by municipal bonds for essential public projects as well as funding from the Austin Parks Foundation and Spurs Give, the release said.
