VFW Post 2676 marks 80th and 50th anniversaries since WWII and Vietnam wars
ARCHER COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — In Scotland and Windthorst, Memorial Day is not just a date on the calendar; it's personal. Residents took part in a tradition of remembrance, one that stretches back generations. Burkburnett honors fallen heroes with wreath, taps, and colors This year's Memorial Day ceremony, hosted by the Scotland-Windthorst VFW Post 2676 and Auxiliary, was especially significant as 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Dozens joined, remembering those who gave their lives, including Windthorst and Scotland veterans. Their stories were echoed and honored through prayer and the laying of the wreaths. David Teichman, Quarter Master of VFW Post 2676, talked about why these ceremonies are so important. 'Ceremonies like this are important because we have to keep the memory alive. We have to keep young people involved. We have to let them know that the great life we enjoy here in our country is directly attributable to people who have given their lives,' Teichman said. The ceremony also featured a keynote speech from Lieutenant Colonel Ryan T. Huff, Commander of the 372nd Training Squadron at Sheppard Air Force Base. In his remarks, he called on those in attendance to honor the dead and live in a way that upholds their legacy.
