Mother's Day in Orlando: Ways to celebrate this weekend
Mother's Day is May 11, presenting a day dedicated to expressing gratitude and love toward moms, grandmothers and other maternal figures. It's a day often filled with family time, gifts, good food and great company.
In Orlando, there are many events that offer the chance to bond with mom. Here are a few.
Graham's U Pick Peaches offers a Mother's Day weekend on the farm featuring peaches, blackberries and sunflowers available to pick. Mothers will receive a free gift. In addition, families can find local food and craft vendors. Entry and parking are free. The farm is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. May 9-10 and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. May 11 at 14803 Lake Yale Road in Umatilla. More information:
The Mother of All Baby Showers hosts an adults-only event at Orlando Science Center for expectant and new parents. The evening event offers resources, support and education from experts, peers and parent-focused brands. The event is from 6-9 p.m. May 9 at 777 E. Princeton St. in Orlando. Tickets are $20 per person or $30 per couple (before fees) with a VIP upgrade available. More information:
Formosa Winery in Kissimmee offers a Mother's Day weekend charcuterie workshop. Join creative kitchen to learn how to be a charcuterie pro. The event, which is from 2-4 p.m. May 10, includes all supplies to make a masterful charcuterie board and expert tips for $50 per person (before taxes). Lukas Nursery celebrates Mother's Day with food, mimosas and creative gardening fun. Participants can paint a pot with mom from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 10-11 at 1909 Slavia Road in Oviedo with a $20 ticket per participant. More information:
Mead Botanical Garden hosts 'Mommy and Me' yoga in the garden for $10 per person (before fees). The event begins at 10:30 a.m. May 10 at the picnic pavilion at 1300 S. Denning Drive in Winter Park. More information:
The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, which has been hosting guests since 1938, has pontoon tours setting out on the Winter Park chain of lakes 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (on the hour) every day of the year except for Christmas. Treat mom to an hour on the water, complete with views of cypress trees, tropical vegetation, fun facts and local history. Tours are $20 for adults or $10 for ages 2-11 and set off from 312 E. Leu Gardens is a popular spot for Orlando families to spend time outdoors, especially for moms who have a green thumb or appreciate beautiful botanicals. Moms receive free admission on their special day, May 11. Admission for other guests is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-17. Children younger than 4 and active-duty military enter for free. Wander the 50-acre space to see roses, caladiums, poinciana, crepe myrtles and more. The gardens are open daily 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at 1920 N. Forest Ave. in Orlando. More information:
Orange County Regional History Center is free for mothers and all caregivers on Mother's Day. The local educational experience extends the offer to grandma or anyone else who plays an important caring role. Take advantage from noon-5 p.m. May 11 at 65 E. Central Blvd. in Orlando. More information:
The Winter Garden Masonic Lodge is the departure point for horse-drawn carriage tours facilitated by Soul Haven Ranch on the afternoon of Mother's Day. Tours are available every 20 minutes for $125 per tour. The capacity for each carriage is four adults or two adults and three minor children. Tours can be booked by calling 407-509-1981. Avalon Park hosts a Mother's Day picnic at Town Park through Social Mariposa Picnic. Each reservation includes bouquet making, food, music, games and a picnic experience.
