Raleigh County announces unveiling of Bill Withers Statue in Beckley
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – The city of Beckley is proud to announce a ceremony to honor a famous West Virginia songwriter.
The city announced they will hold an unveiling of the Bill Withers Statue at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway on Friday, March 28, 2025.
They also announced they will unveil the 'Bill Withers Plaza' at the ceremony. Bill Withers was born in Slab Fork but raised in the Beckley area.
Officials tell 59News several speakers and musicians will be in attendance including Wither's wife, Marcia.

Beckley-Stratton Middle School students and staff will also conduct a live performance of Wither's famous song 'Lean On Me.'
Director of Beckley Events, Jill Moorefield said she is proud to unveil the statue after several years of development.
'It will be a sense of pride. It will be like another attraction down here. People can come and get their pictures taken and kids can play the musical equipment. They can realize that 'hey, you can be from this area and you can do big things.''

The ceremony will be from noon to 1 p.m. to honor the life and legacy of one of West Virginia's own.
