Real Housewives star Teddi Mellencamp shares difficult 'day to day decision' amid stage four cancer battle

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp has been battling stage four cancer after a melanoma diagnosis in 2022 metastasized, and has been updating fans on her journey Teddi Mellencamp has shared a poignant update on her fight against stage four cancer, detailing the intense emotional journey she's been on. In February, the podcast host disclosed that following a skin cancer diagnosis in 2022, doctors discovered 'multiple' tumors in her brain and lung. After enduring a harrowing brain surgery, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, aged 43, made a powerful appearance at a cancer benefit last week, choosing to forgo a wig and courageously display the scars from her recent surgeries. ‌ She has now opened up to her followers about how she decides whether to wear a wig or not, with her choice reflecting her mood on any given day. ‌ "The day to day decision of wig versus no wig. Crying days I tend to pick the wig," she shared on Instagram, posting a selfie where she dons a full blonde wig. Teddi highlighted the stark ups and downs of undergoing treatment for stage 4 brain and lung tumors, while also taking the opportunity to encourage her fans to get regular health checks. "The highs and lows of treatment for stage 4 brain and lung tumors are pretty extreme. Please go get your yearly checks," she implored. As the daughter of music legend John Mellencamp, she took the chance to remind everyone that it's melanoma awareness month, stressing the importance of scheduling check-ups and encouraging others to do the same. This heartfelt insight comes after Teddi gave an exclusive interview to where she described her life as 'devastating' and spoke openly about her stage four cancer diagnosis. The reality TV personality attended the Women's Cancer Research Fund's annual gala, An Unforgettable Evening, alongside her close friend Kylie Richards, where she opted to proudly show her bare head instead of wearing a wig. Revealing her head scars from the numerous medical procedures she's endured this year, she looked absolutely fabulous in a chic black suit paired with shimmering silver heels. ‌ During the event, she provided an update on her harrowing health journey and firmly addressed those who criticised her for continuing to ride horses amidst her treatment. "This is my first night out since I got out of the hospital," she declared. "I feel good. I know it feels really devastating right now, but everything – it gets better." ‌ Just last week, she shared some positive news that the tumors 'have shrunk a bunch' thanks to immunotherapy, with her medical team optimistic about the progress. The reality TV personality is gearing up for one final round of the innovative cancer therapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to combat cancer cells, before her next major assessment on June 1. Teddi's health crisis brought her divorce proceedings to a temporary standstill, which started after she filed the necessary paperwork in late 2024.

Teddi Mellencamp debuts shaved head as she walks 1st red carpet after brain surgery: 'I'm feeling great'

Teddi Mellencamp's cancer journey has been filled with highs and lows, but the television personality was happy to celebrate positive news from her doctors on Monday night. Mellencamp attended An Unforgettable Evening, an event benefiting the Women's Cancer Research Fund in Beverly Hills, with her best friend and former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills costar Kyle Richards. It was her first formal event since she underwent surgery in February to remove several brain tumors. Mellencamp debuted her shaved head on the red carpet. 'I'm doing OK,' she told Yahoo Entertainment on the red carpet. 'I would say that I'm feeling great in the fact that I'm doing better physically, and the mental stuff — it's highs and lows. But I'm so happy to be here and [to] be able to support this event and such an important cause.' Richards, who lost her mother to breast cancer, told Yahoo it was a relief to be at the gala, which raises funds for pioneering cancer research across leading medical and academic institutions in the U.S., after receiving 'positive news from Teddi's doctor.' 'We were waiting with bated breath, all of us in the last week for her to get either good news or bad news. It was a very scary time for her and everyone that loves her,' the Bravo star said. 'So it feels way better to be here tonight with that.' Last week, Mellencamp shared on social media that 'all tumors stage IV (metastasized melanoma in my brain and lungs) shrunk or disappeared.' After two more immunotherapy sessions, doctors are hopeful she will be 'cancer free.' Mellencamp chose not to wear a wig at the gala, something Richards found 'really inspiring.' 'To see someone like Teddi be so strong and show up here tonight looking absolutely stunning. She was like, 'Do I wear a wig? They're uncomfortable sometimes.' And I said, 'You look so gorgeous.' Not everybody can do that and show people it's OK,' Richards said. 'You're gorgeous no matter what.' Mellencamp, who shares daughters Slate, 12, and Dave, 5, and son Cruz, 10, with her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, said she's had an 'amazing support system' throughout this process. That has included Richards every step of the way. 'I did everything from sleeping with her at the hospital to going to doctor's appointments, to bringing her a cuter blanket at the hospital, to making her laugh, to taking embarrassing videos of her that I knew that I could show her [later] she would appreciate and laugh at," Richards said of how she's been at her friend's side. 'Really, that's what it is — trying to keep her happy. We have nights just at home and she comes and has sleepovers and we just laugh." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave (@teddimellencamp) Mellencamp joked that Monday was 'the first time I've been out past 8:30 [p.m.] since this happened.' 'I looked at Kyle, I'm like, 'Are we gonna make it?'' she laughed. 'Normally I just come to your house and we watch some TV. But it's really important that we're here.'

Teddi Mellencamp shares cancer treatment that worked for her in battle with deadly disease

Teddi Mellencamp stepped out for her first formal appearance at an event since her cancer diagnosis. At An Unforgettable Evening Benefiting the Women's Cancer Research Fund in Beverly Hills on Monday, Mellencamp shared the good news that her immunotherapy treatments have been working for her. "We did a double dose five days ago, and then I have another set next Wednesday," she told People Magazine. "And then I hope, hopefully I'm done." "It's a continuation," she added of her treatment. "So at first I was doing radiation and immunotherapy, but immunotherapy ended up being the thing that worked for me." Mellencamp was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer earlier this year, after her melanoma metastasized in her brain and lungs. She underwent surgery to remove several masses and has been receiving immunotherapy and radiation. The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star told the outlet, "I'm feeling pretty good. I mean, today is day five post immunotherapy, so it's day four. And five are always the hardest." She added, "You know, when people come up to me and they're like, 'You're so strong, you did this.' I'm like, half the time I'm strong, and half the time I'm crying and sad." "[But, at the moment] I feel good," Mellencamp said. "What I've learned is that I have amazing kids. I have amazing friends and a support system that's there for me, and I think that's huge." Mellancamp's former "Real Housewives" co-star Kyle Richards also attended the event and praised her friend's strength and determination. "It's been scary, really scary, really a wakeup call for everyone to listen to their inner voice if they think something's not right," Richards told Fox News Digital at the event. "I forced her to go to the dermatologist originally to remove the mole she had on her shoulder." WATCH: KYLE RICHARDS CALLS TEDDI MELLENCAMP 'INCREDIBLY STRONG' DURING CANCER BATTLE She continued, "But it's been a very scary time for those that love her. And obviously, she is incredibly strong, at times I thought much stronger than any of her loved ones watching her, because we were all crying all the time, and she was very stoic, which is impressive. But she had her moments for sure. To see her here tonight, showing up, looking amazing, having good news last week means the world to us." An Unforgettable Evening Benefiting the Women's Cancer Research Fund has been running for 25 years, bringing together leaders in entertainment, cancer research, and corporate philanthropy to raise funds for pioneering cancer research around the country. The cause is near and dear to Richards, who lost her mother to breast cancer. "Well, I lost my mom to breast cancer, and I have four daughters, and obviously you see what [Teddi's] going through and to be so young going through something like this, so for me to be able to be here, to lend my voice, to be able to do whatever I can do to raise awareness and help with much-needed funds to continue the research, I'm always here to lend my support." WATCH: KATHY HILTON EXPLAINS WHY BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER MATTERS SO MUCH TO HER Her half-sister, Kathy Hilton, was also at the event, recalling their mom "didn't get to the doctor, hadn't gone and had a mammogram in ten years, and this was, [she] passed 20 years ago. But now it's not a death sentence. We're coming really, really, really close to a cure." Hilton also praised Mellencamp, saying, "She looks really great… so I think it's really wonderful that everybody's coming out and helping out."

Olivia Munn is living proof: It matters when celebrities speak out about their health

Olivia Munn has seen this film before. You know the scene, when a person has their world turned upside down after learning they have 'the big C.' Only this time, the 44-year-old actress wasn't reading it in a script. This became Munn's reality when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. Thanks to a free risk assessment, her story has a happy ending. On Monday night, Munn was honored with the Courage Award at An Unforgettable Evening, an annual gala benefiting the Women's Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) in Beverly Hills. The Your Friends & Neighbors star went public with her bilateral breast cancer diagnosis in March 2024, revealing she had privately undergone four surgeries in 10 months, including a double mastectomy. Sharing her story for the world to dissect wasn't easy, but Munn says it was worth it. 'Having so many women come up to me on the street who've gone through breast cancer — daughters, sisters, people who aren't going through it themselves but are connected to it so closely has [been rewarding],' Munn told Yahoo Entertainment at the event. 'Every time that someone comes up to me, there is this healing process that happens between both of us because it really is a sisterhood,' she continued. 'We're there rooting each other on and lifting each other up and getting each other through this.' Over the past year, Munn, known for The Newsroom and The Daily Show, where she was a correspondent, suddenly had a new ID tag on her resume: breast cancer awareness advocate. She was recently recognized as one of Time magazine's 'Women of the Year' for 2025. Her influence actually is measurable, WCRF co-founder and gala chair Jamie Tisch told me at the event. 'What Olivia has done — her impact on awareness and being outspoken about her breast cancer and her journey — has been so important for so many women. When she spoke about using the breast cancer risk assessment tool, there was a 4,000% increase in women taking that,' Tisch explained. That increase was just in the first week of Munn announcing her diagnosis, by the way. (There are two free online tools here and here to assess your own risk.) 'People are being diagnosed younger, which is kind of a good news thing because we're catching it,' Tisch continued. 'She really did impact people.' Munn accepted the honor inside the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton hotel with husband, John Mulaney, and her team of doctors in attendance. 'Courage in those first days after my breast cancer diagnosis meant letting myself be afraid. Being afraid and walking into the void … a void of inexperience, a void of information, a void of uncertainty. The first step I had to take was to walk out of [my doctor's] office and call my husband,' Munn recalled. 'When the time came for me to say the words, "it was cancer," I couldn't get the words out. It was caught in my throat. I've also seen that in movies. I think it was the disbelief that my life had taken this turn, or the fear of the worst happening, or knowing that these words would break my husband's heart, or all of the above,' she continued. 'As I struggled to say these words, John just said, 'Come home.'' Munn and Mulaney, who hosts his own talk show, share son, Malcolm, 3, and 7-month-old daughter, Méi, whom they welcomed via surrogate. 'When I got home, my son was playing in the yard, he was just over 1 years old at that moment. I went over and I hugged him so hard that he said, 'Mama, too much.' And then I turned to John, and right then we started planning my way out of this thing,' she said. Today Munn is cancer-free. She told the crowd in attendance she's undergoing endocrine (or hormone) therapy. As for the actress's happy ending? She's fighting every day for hers — and thousands like her — to have awareness and access to the tools they need to take control of their health.
