Apsara named state women's commission chairperson
Patna: The state social welfare department on Saturday reconstituted the Bihar State Women's Commission with Apsara as its chairperson. Bandana Preyashi, chairperson-cum-MD, Women and Child Development Corporation, will be the ex-officio member-secretary of the panel.
The commission has been reconstituted in pursuance of the provisions of Section 14 (a) (iv) of the Bihar State Women's Commission Act, 1999 (as amended by the Act, 2024).
Apsara's appointment has been made keeping in view her extensive experience and dedication to public service, according to the department's press communique. "Under her leadership, the commission is expected to take effective and result-oriented action to address burning issues like women's empowerment, domestic violence, dowry harassment, and gender discrimination," it noted.
Sheela Tuddu, Razia Kamil Ansari, Pinky Kumari, Sajal Jha, Shyama Singh, and Rashmi Rekha Sinha have been nominated as members. The tenure of the chairman and members will be a maximum of three years from the date of their nomination or till they attain the age of 65, whichever is earlier.
