Breaking down Tennessee football's future quarterback roster
Tennessee has two quarterbacks on roster following 2025 spring football practices. Redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger is in is second season with the Vols, and true freshman George MacIntyre enrolled early at Tennessee in January.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Nico Iamaleava transferred from the Vols after not attending Tennessee's last spring practice and Orange & White Game.
Tennessee will look to add a quarterback to its 2025 roster from the NCAA transfer portal during the spring window, which is open through April 25.
"You're trying to get your roster where it needs to be to give yourself the best chance when you get to kick off in the fall," Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said after Iamaleava's departure. "Certainly, with only two scholarship players at the quarterback position, we're going to have to find another gap."

Tennessee received a commitment from 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon on Aug. 3, 2024.
In addition to Brandon's commitment, the Vols offered the following signal-callers during the class of 2026 recruiting cycle with their committed schools in parenthesis: Jared Curtis, Dia Bell (Texas), Jonas Williams (USC), Helaman Casuga (Texas A&M), Tait Reynolds (Clemson), Kane Archer and Josiah Oxendine.

The Vols have also recruited beyond their 2026 class, offering scholarships to four quarterback prospects during the 2025 spring semester.
Tennessee offered 2028 prospects Wonderful Monds IV on Jan. 16 and Neimann Lawrence on Jan. 24. The Vols offered 2027 signal-caller Kavian Bryant on Feb. 20.
On March 7, the first day of Tennessee's spring football practices, the Vols offered a scholarship to 2027 quarterback Blake Roskopf.
Tennessee has also offered the following quarterbacks in the 2027 and 2028 classes.
