13 injured in NJ school bus crash on Garden State Parkway; bus was headed to Rockland

A teenaged boy is in critical condition, and a dozen other people were injured, after a school bus headed toward Rockland County crashed and overturned on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey on Monday, March 10. Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali said in a Facebook post Monday night that 28 children and two adults were on board the bus when it crashed and overturned near Exit 172 in Montvale at around 7:40 p.m. on the northbound lanes of the parkway. Montvale police, New Jersey State Police, Woodcliff Lake Fire Department as well as Monsey and Bergen Hatzoloh responded to the scene of the crash. Thirteen of the passengers were taken to local hospitals for treatment of severe injuries, including a 14-year-old boy who is in critical condition after getting pinned under the overturned bus, Ghassali said. No fatalities were reported. According to the Bergen Record, the northbound lanes of the parkway were closed for nearly two hours following the crash. A report from Yeshiva World News said the bus was transporting children and adults to a celebration honoring the recent wedding of the grandchild of the Skverer Rebbe of New Square. New Jersey State Police have not yet responded to comments on the incident. The crash remains under investigation. (This story may update.)
