Bhopal to host World Rose Convention in o2028
Bhopal: The World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) will host the 21st World Rose Convention in Bhopal in 2028. The event will welcome over 700 international delegates globally. Governor Mangubhai Patel serves as the Chief Patron of the Madhya Pradesh Rose Society. The announcement was made at the 20th World Rose Convention in Fukuyama, Japan, where the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) represented India. Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture and Managing Director of MPTB, led the delegation. During this event, Sushil Prakash became the first Indian to be elected as WFRS President. The event was attended by Ramkumar, Indian Consul General in Fukuoka, Vivek Jude, Deputy Director of MPTB, Mahendra Pratap Singh from Travel India Tours, and 14 Madhya Pradesh Rose Society members. At the convention's closing ceremony, WFRC formally handed over the flag to Principal Secretary Shukla. The state's participation reinforced its global tourism aspirations and presented its vision for biodiversity, cultural richness, and sustainable tourism for the 2028 convention. What is the World Rose Convention? The World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) organises this triennial convention in different countries. The event brings together rose enthusiasts, experts, and visitors globally. The 20th edition was held in Fukuyama, Japan, from May 18 to 24, 2025, hosted by the Japan Rose Society. It featured exhibitions, expert lectures, and workshops on rose cultivation, pot planting techniques, soil science, and horticultural innovation.

Ooty rose show begins
UDHAGAMANDALAM: Tamil Nadu chief whip K Ramachandran inaugurated the twentieth edition of the rose show in the sprawling and scenic Government Rose Garden (GRG) in Ooty on Saturday. The rose show, which is one of the main highlights of the annual summer festivities of Ooty, has always been a crowd puller. Hundreds of visitors from across the country thronged the garden to witness the spectacular 'colour of riots' on the opening day. The theme of the rose show this year is ' Save Aquatic World .' It features a pair of dolphins made of 80,000 roses. There are floral models of an Olive Ridley turtle, a penguin, a starfish and others. More than 120,000 cut roses of various colours were used for making these models. The show will be conducted for three days. However, the display of floral features and cut roses will continue for more than a week. Today the garden boasts 32,000 rose plants of 4,301 varieties, including 'green' and 'purple' rose varieties .' The number of varieties of roses in the garden is amazing,' said K Mallika, a tourist from Salem. The show included cultural programmes for the visitors. L Raman, another tourist, said, 'The cultural programme is an added attraction to the show.' There are prizes for rose growers who showcase the best blooms. Nilgiris collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and horticulture director P Kumaravel Pandian were among those who attended the inauguration ceremony.
