CAF marks World Football Day with continued commitment to Youth Empowerment, Education and Schools Football

The Confédération Africaine de Football ('CAF') joined the global community in celebrating World Football Day reaffirming its dedication to harnessing the power of the game to drive social development, youth empowerment and education across the African continent. At the heart of CAF's commitment is the CAF African Schools Football Championship – an initiative championed by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and a flagship grassroots programme that continues to impact hundreds of thousands of young boys and girls. The CAF African Schools Football Championship transcends the 90 minutes and is also focused on promoting life skills, teamwork, and leadership. In recognition of football's role in advancing global development, CAF's Director of Member Associations and Executive Member of the United Nations' Football for the Goals (FFTG) Advisory Board, Sarah Mukuna, recently participated in the UN Football for the Goals Forum, held over two days at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. During her presentation, Mukuna shared the transformational impact of CAF's school-level programmes and how they align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — notably in areas of good health (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17). 'Through the CAF African Schools Football Championship, we are building a movement that places education, inclusion, and empowerment at the heart of youth development. Our collaboration with the UN and other global partners strengthens our resolve to use football to shape a better, more equitable future for Africa's children,' Mukuna said. The Forum served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing between the six football confederations, UN Member States, and senior UN officials and other Members. CAF's participation emphasized the CAF's strategic approach to aligning football development with broader global goals, reaffirming Africa's leadership in leveraging football as a driver of sustainable progress.

Egypt's Al Ahly Joins UNICEF's Global World Football Day Panel to Champion Child Rights Through Football

Ahmed Emam UNICEF Egypt and Al Ahly Sporting Club took center stage at 'Every Play for Every Child,' a high-level event held at UNICEF Headquarters in New York to mark World Football Day. The gathering celebrated the growing role of football in promoting children's rights, development, and well-being globally. Mohamed Abu Okail, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications at Al Ahly SC, represented Egypt and the MENA region in the event's opening panel, 'Making a Difference with UNICEF's Football Club Partners.' He highlighted the renewed UNICEF–Al Ahly partnership, signed in September 2024, which leverages the influence of football to support children across Egypt. 'This collaboration not only inspires children nationwide but also sets a model for impactful partnerships across the MENA region and Africa,' Abu Okail said during the panel. The event brought together representatives from UNICEF's global partner clubs—including Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Wrexham A.F.C., and Inter Miami CF—alongside private sector leaders and international football institutions, to explore how the world's most popular sport can drive meaningful social change. UNICEF emphasized that partnerships with football clubs go far beyond the pitch, aiming to foster inclusion, resilience, and opportunity for children everywhere. The event reinforced the organization's commitment to using sport and storytelling as powerful tools for advocacy and impact. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

World Football Day 2025: 10 Legends Who Changed The Game Forever

Last Updated: World Football Day celebrates the power of football to unite people across cultures, nations, and backgrounds. World Football Day 2025: Last year, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to recognise May 25 as World Football Day. In 2024, the day marked the 100th anniversary of the first international football tournament featuring teams from all regions. Football, known as soccer in the United States, made its Olympic debut in Paris in 1924. This annual celebration is meant to honour the global impact of football as a unifying sport. It also sheds light on the role of football in promoting peace, development and women's empowerment. The day encourages all countries to celebrate the value of the sport through special events and competitions. Football traces its roots to ancient civilisations, with early versions of the game being played in China, Greece, and Rome. The modern version, however, emerged in 19th-century England, when official rules first came into place, leading to the foundation of the Football Association in 1863. World Football Day 2025: History From dusty fields to state-of-the-art stadiums, football has now grown into a global passion, with tournaments like the FIFA World Cup uniting nations and cultures. The proposal to designate May 25 as World Football Day was put forward by Libya's ambassador to the United Nations, Taher El-Sonni. The initiative received widespread support, with over 160 UN member states showing a thumbs-up to the resolution. While presenting the proposal, Ambassador El-Sonni highlighted football's global reach, emphasising its presence in communities of all sizes—from small villages to major cities. He also admitted it to be the most popular sport in the world. World Football Day 2025: Top 10 Footballers In 21st Century World Football Day 2025: Quotes

FIFA launches inaugural World Football Week

Zurich (Switzerland), Apr 25 (UNI) FIFA has launched World Football Week from May 21-25, an inaugural week of festivities to celebrate football's unique ability to connect people across places, cultures and languages. Under the theme 'Together, We Are Stronger,' individuals, teams, and organisations around the world are invited to play, watch, and celebrate football, highlighting the strength which exists in unity. On May 23, 2024, FIFA President Gianni Infantino proposed to extend the existing UN World Football Day (May 25) celebrations for five days annually, in the form of World Football Week. Beginning on May 21, the day on which FIFA was founded in 1904, World Football Week extends until UN World Football Day, on May 25. The 25th of May was also the day on which the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris kicked off - the first to be organised by FIFA - paving the way for the first FIFA World Cup, six years later. Calling on the United Nations General Assembly ahead of last year's World Football Day, the FIFA President was met with the eager support of Dennis Francis, the then-President of the UN General Assembly at its 78th Session, and the Group of Friends of Football, to give people around the world a longer opportunity to unite through football and experience the joy and peace the sport can bring. 'World Football Week is more than just a celebration of the game we love; it's a celebration of unity. Under the theme 'Together, We Are Stronger', World Football Week will be an opportunity to honour football's immense power to bring people together and is also a show of the strength that our football community has when united,' the FIFA President said. 'No matter how you enjoy the sport, whether playing with friends or cheering on a team, you are part of football, which truly unites the world." 'I would like to thank the Group of Friends of Football and the UN General Assembly for their support in helping us to extend the festivities beyond the UN World Football Day on 25 May. I look forward to seeing the world come together during this important week of joy and happiness,' he said. Mattias Grafstrom, FIFA Secretary General, said: 'World Football Week is a special opportunity for communities to come together and enjoy football. We thank the FIFA Member Associations, and everyone involved for their creativity and commitment in organising and delivering events, giving people around the world the chance to share in the joy football brings.' World Football Week will run from May 21, FIFA's 121st anniversary, to May 25 and will be given a platform when all 211 FIFA Member Associations congregate at the 75th FIFA Congress in Paraguay on May 15, during the Delegates' Football Tournament. FIFA has assembled a digital toolkit for MAs, clubs, sports centres and community groups at all levels, with guidance on how to successfully deliver local events. The toolkit provides a variety of ideas for bringing people together to play and watch football, and ways to engage individuals of all ages and abilities. It includes useful branding materials, such as posters, and social media templates to help raise awareness. UNI BM
