Make-A-Wish gives Norwell girl battling cancer a birthday to remember
A Norwell girl battling spinal cancer had her biggest birthday wish granted over the weekend, thanks to Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Macy Burgess will travel to Texas later this spring for a clinical trial. Since she'll be away for her birthday, her wish is to bring her family and friends together for a celebration. Make-A-Wish threw Macy an unforgettable birthday party at PLAY Boston at North Station on Sunday, bringing together 75 of her friends and family for a day of fun and memories. The 'Ultimate pink and green club experience' was tailored to Macy's requests, featuring a disco ball, light show, live DJ, chocolate fountain, tiered pink and green cake, and more. Décor for the party also included a custom photo backdrop, balloon arches, and other special touches. Macy's wish is one of over 40 wishes being granted by Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island during World Wish Month in April, a month of taking action in support of the Make-A-Wish mission. Teen with sickle cell disease granted wish by Make-A-Wish Program
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — April is World Wish Month, and one Peoria teen is getting her wish granted. Sixteen-year-old Roniyah Jackson has sickle cell disease and on Friday, her Make-A-Wish was granted in the form of an all-day shopping spree at several Peoria stores. The day started for Roniyah at Walmart on University Street in Peoria. Flanked by family, she walked through the store and looked for items that most teens would like — electronics and food. It was tough but in the end, she picked out a trampoline, two sets of headphones, a new laptop, and of course, snacks for her busy day. Walk for Wishes raises money for Make-A-Wish Her mother remembers how she was brought to tears when she got the call that Roniyah was nominated for a wish through the nonprofit organization which seeks to make the lives of critically ill children better by granting their wish. 'I was so overwhelmed when I got the call. And then she . . . she didn't know. So I explained what it was,' said her mother, Sabrina Brown. 'So, I was so proud that she got nominated this year. So I'm overwhelmed for her.' Both mother and daughter spent the day enjoying the moment. They've dealt with the pain and the angst of the disease. So, taking a moment, walking through the store and getting to pick whatever Roniyah wanted was special. After Walmart, the family went to Old Navy, Target, had lunch at Olive Garden and wrapped up at Northwoods Mall. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
