Meg Ryan, Rashida Jones Join Natalie Portman for ‘Good Sex' (Exclusive)
Rashida Jones and Meg Ryan have joined the enlarging cast of Good Sex, the romantic comedy Lena Dunham is directing for Netflix. The duo join Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo and Tucker Pillsbury (aka, the singer-songwriter known as Role Model) in the feature that Dunham also wrote. More from The Hollywood Reporter Netflix Is Making a 'Clash of Clans' Animated Series Mark Ruffalo, Role Model Join Natalie Portman for 'Good Sex' Rom-Com Netflix Doubles Down on Kids Games, Adds Exclusive 'World of Peppa Pig' Alongside New Episodes Sex centers on a pragmatic couples therapist named Ally (Portman), who after spending a decade in a failed relationship and now turning 40, reluctantly dips her toe back into the New York dating scene. But, per Netflix's logline, Ally gets more than she bargained for when she meets two men, one in his twenties (Pillsbury) and one in his fifties (Ruffalo), who show her there is no set formula for good sex. Ryan will play Portman's free-spirited therapist and mentor, dispensing advice that likely befits a rom-com icon. Jones will play Portman's raunchy and recently divorced best friend. Dunham, who tackled relationships and sex with HBO's Girls, is producing with her Good Thing Going Productions partner Michael Cohen. Portman and Sophie Mas are producing their banner, MountainA. For Jones, Sex marks the first feature the writer-actress has done since the 2020 Sofia Coppola comedy On the Rocks. She recently starred in Apple TV+'s mystery show Sunny. Ryan famously starred in When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, among other rom-coms, forever establishing herself as the queen of the genre. In 2023, she directed and starred in her own rom-com, What Happens Later, which also starred David Duchovny. Jones is repped by UTA and Schreck Rose. Ryan is repped by Gersh. Netflix expands into kids gaming with Peppa Pig and Sesame Street
Netflix is ramping up its efforts in the kids gaming space by integrating beloved IPs like Peppa Pig and Sesame Street into its platform. The company began streaming new Peppa Pig episodes in the U.S. today and has launched the World of Peppa Pig gaming app directly within Netflix. This move strengthens Netflix's commitment to offering familiar and safe content for young audiences. Lisa Burgess, Netflix's head of kids gaming, emphasized the importance of using well-known intellectual property to build trust and engagement among young users. 'Kids want to interact with characters they know and love — they see them as best friends,' she told Variety. The World of Peppa Pig app includes interactive activities such as puzzles, dress-up games, coloring books, and memory challenges. Designed for ages two to eight, its core audience is preschoolers aged two to five. Netflix also announced it has acquired streaming rights to PBS Kids' Sesame Street, including Sesame Street Mecha Builders, and will be developing original games around these franchises. The strategy ties into Netflix's broader goal of maintaining viewer engagement from early childhood through adulthood. Burgess says the company uses profile data to tailor content recommendations, which now extends to gaming. 'We want to create a smooth content journey for families — from kids games to all-ages titles,' she said. With kids and family viewing accounting for 15% of its total viewership, Netflix is positioning its gaming lineup as an extension of the trusted environment families already rely on — aiming to grow its presence in the competitive kids entertainment market.
