Iowa football running back transfer commits to Mountain West program
Iowa football running back transfer commits to Mountain West program With the Iowa Hawkeyes currently carrying a full running back room, there are only so many carries to go around to the group. The nature of that position being a deep group has one former Iowa running back committing to a new program. With Kamari Moulton and Jaziun Patterson sitting atop the depth chart and in line for the bulk of the workload, fellow back Max White entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason in search of a new home and a chance to tote the rock. White has since found that home as he announced via his account on X. He is transferring to the Wyoming Cowboys, a program located in Laramie, Wyoming, and part of the Mountain West Conference. Max White joined the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2021 as a walk-on before cracking the field in the 2023 season in multiple capacities. White has appeared in 27 games for the Hawkeyes with nine rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown under his belt. He has also returned kickoffs, averaging 18.6 yards per return on five return attempts. A product of John F. Kennedy High School and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Max White comes in at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, per 247Sports. Wyoming went 3-9 last season but saw a strong run prior. The Cowboys went 9-4 in 2023, 7-6 in 2022, and 7-6 in 2021. Former Colorado running backs coach lands job with a nearby college program
Former Colorado running backs coach lands job with a nearby college program Colorado overhauled some of their coaching staff this offseason, most notably replacing Gary Harrell with Marshall Faulk as the new running backs coach. Harrell recently found a new job and is heading north from Boulder to join the Wyoming Cowboys in the same role. In 2022, Harrell followed Deion Sanders from Jackson State to Colorado. The running game under Harrell never seemed to get going in either of his two seasons, averaging only 2.5 yards per carry last year and a 2.3 average in 2023. The rushing attack's failures weren't all on Harrell, as Colorado focused heavily on making the receiving game the offense's focal point. With players like Travis Hunter, LaJohntay Wester, and Jimmy Horn Jr., the direction of the offense was understandable, but it did make Colorado one-dimensional at times. Harrell joins head coach Jay Sawvel's staff looking to turn around a Cowboys program that went 3-9 last season. Perhaps the style of Wyoming's offense is more suitable to Harrell's role, as they ran the ball 460 times last season for 1,654 yards. Harrell was Howard's head coach from 2011 to 2016. In 2012, the D.C. Touchdown Club honored Harrell as the Local College Coach of the Year. During his time at Howard, he finished with a 20-36 overall record, including a 7-4 mark in 2012. The Wyoming Cowboys and Harrell will be back in Boulder this season. On Sept. 20, they will take on the Buffaloes in a matchup of the border rivals.
