Spacetop for Windows Gives Your Laptop a Private 100-Inch AR Workspace

Sightful has unveiled Spacetop for Windows, an AR workspace package for Windows AI PCs. It's a combination glasses-and-software package that projects a desktop image about 100 inches wide in front of you. You can only see this image when you wear the included glasses. It's optimized for modern Windows laptops with dedicated NPUs, including the Dell XPS, the HP Elitebook, and Microsoft's Surface Laptop for Business, among others. The release comes almost two years after the company unveiled what it described as the world's first augmented reality (AR) laptop. At the time, few liked the idea of such a specialized, expensive product. Still, Sightful says that developing custom hardware was necessary until the PC industry caught up with the computing power needed for a productive AR experience. The company's founders say users' number one requests were for Windows compatibility and the ability to run the applications they wanted. Now that today's laptops have the necessary hardware, Spacetop for Windows can generate the same 100-inch virtual display. The company says the experience is made to feel natural for Windows users—no more extra monitors or selecting between multiple desktops when you have such a large virtual display right in front of you. To see it, users must wear the XReal Air Ultra 2 AR glasses, which are designed to be lightweight (83g) and have dual OLED screens with 1080p resolution for each eye. Otherwise, Sightful says that Spacetop for Windows now works with Windows applications as expected. You can move and adjust the virtual desktop using simple keyboard shortcuts like pushing, sliding, and rotating. It includes a Travel mode that keeps the workspace stable on the go and adaptive brightness for various lighting conditions. The concept should also be ergonomic, at least compared with the neck strain you could normally get from hunching over a laptop display. The $899 Spacetop bundle launches today and includes the XReal Air Ultra 2 AR glasses and a 12-month subscription to the Spacetop software, with an annual renewal fee of $200. Optional prescription lenses are available for an additional cost of $50 to $150. Sightful is launching Spacetop for Windows in the US and Germany, with plans for more countries in 2025.
