Advertisement PSSS also has the MyPSSS app that allows complaints to be channelled directly to agencies under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) through Talian Kasih, such as the Social Welfare Department, to help families with disabled children, reports of missing children and psychosocial complaints. 'The centres connect to all social issues faced by society that not only will be helped by TKN but also ministries and agencies,' she told reporters at the Jelajah Kasih PSSS programme here on Sunday that was officiated by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick. The programme was held in conjunction with Kembara Kasih KPWKM 2025, involving two main zones in Sabah - Zone 1 (Tuaran, Papar and Penampang) and Zone 2 (Lahad Datu, Kunak and Tawau). On Jelajah Kasih PSSS, Nordina said over 2,000 psychosocial cases were recorded throughout the three days it was held in Sabah, including cost of living issues, work related problems, as well as family and abuse issues. Advertisement 'When we receive cases like these, YKN plays its role to bring them to the related ministry or agency, but if it involves family issues, YKN will refer to the National Population and Family Development Board,' she said. The local tagline 'sa dengar, sa tulung bah' (I listen, I help) displayed on the PSSS bus boosts the confidence of locals to meet with counsellors to express their burdens, she said, adding that the response has been so welcoming that the PSSS counter was the focal point throughout the event. 'We hope that the two PSSS buses can reach more people not only in the towns but also rural areas,' she said, adding that the buses will be brought to an area depending on the situation at hand. The buses have special counselling rooms for those meeting the counsellors so that they can talk about their problems calmly and comfortably. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? PSSS helps 2,000 in Sabah, expands mental health access in rural areas
Ewon (centre) speaks to Nordina at the mobile PSSS, as Chong looks on. KOTA KINABALU (May 19): Pusat Sokongan Sosial Setempat (PSSS) by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) have proven vital in providing exposure and access to the importance of emotional support and mental health, including in rural areas, in conjunction with the 2025 Kembara Kasih roadshow. Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) chief executive officer Nordina Haron informed that throughout the state-level roadshow, the mobile PSSS have recorded 2,000 cases from local residents. Nordina said this proves the acceptance of the people for such initiatives, especially for those who may not have access to such services or are hesitant to speak out on sensitive issues. 'Many local residents took the opportunity to receive guidance and direct intervention from counsellors, involving various levels of society including school students, women, seniors and even men. 'This shows that awareness of the importance of mental health is increasing,' she said during the roadshow's PSSS 'Sa Dengar, Sa Tulung Bah' programme in Donggongon yesterday. Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick officiated the event. Among the services offered at the PSSS include holistic psychosocial support to the community by focusing on immediate relief through counselling sessions, guidance, intervention, art therapy, psycho-education, consultation and referral for welfare assistance to relevant departments or agencies. PSSS is operated by experienced, certified and registered counsellors with the Malaysian Counsellors Board. Throughout this Kembara Kasih KPWKM Sabah 2025 roadshow, YKN has provided two mobile PSSS to support the community in Sabah. Ewon (third left) and Nordina (third right) give the thumbs up at the mobile PSSS. At second left is Chong. 'Through the operation of this mobile PSSS, it can increase the reach of PSSS services, especially in rural areas with less social development so that the benefits can be provided holistically. 'Close collaboration with local agencies, community leaders, and volunteers also plays an important role in ensuring that PSSS services reach the target group,' said Nordina. The implementation of the PSSS is not limited to the Kembara Kasih 2025 programme alone, as YKN has implemented the roadshow in various locations including rural areas before. This initiative will be continued in stages. In addition to PSSS, YKN also provided aid through the Ziarah Kasih series throughout the programme. This assistance involves delivering cash assistance to individuals and families identified as eligible, as part of efforts to provide comprehensive support to the community in need. Also present was Penampang Municipal Council president Francis Chong. mental health Nordina Haron Pusat Sokongan Sosial Setempat

Yanic Konan Neiderhauser declares for NBA draft
UNIVERSITY PARK (Nittany Nation) — One of the key returning pieces for Penn State basketball next season may not be returning after all, now that 7-footer Yanic Konan Neiderhauser declared for the NBA draft Wednesday. YKN posted on social media that he intended to explore his professional options while maintaining his final year of collegiate eligibility. If he withdraws from the draft he will return to Happy Valley. Penn State's Guy Gadowsky named Coach of the Year finalist In 2019 new draft eligibility rules began allowing players to hire agents and go through the entire draft process before deciding if they wanted to return to college. Players who want to return must withdraw their name from the NBA draft by June 15th, or, players who were invited to the NBA combine can stay in the process until the Monday after the draft which this year is June 25-26. Any player drafted immediately loses all remaining eligibility. A native of Switzerland, YKN came to Penn State last season after two years at Northern Illinois. He scored 12.9 points-per-game, while recording 6.3 rebounds-per-game. If he returns he'll have one final year of eligibility. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
