Be wary of coverts: Naidu

KADAPA: TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday appealed to party leaders and cadre to be more alert over covert operations in the party. Addressing a massive gathering at Mahanadu on the second day on Wednesday, Naidu, who is also the Chief Minister, warned that the attempts of some parties to fulfill their agenda through covert operations would not be tolerated. Underlining the need to be more alert in politics, the TDP chief pointed out the presence of hardcore criminals in politics. Naidu said that though he was very cautious, the YSR Congress leaders had hoodwinked him in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case by painting it as a heart attack at first. When the murder came to light the next day, they tried to push the blame on him, he added. Giving a strong warning to party cadre and leaders, Chandrababu Naidu said that he would not tolerate if they were involved in any wrongdoing. According to him, it's common for some politicians to shift loyalty, and join other parties, but real cadre remains with the party all the time. The TDP supremo called upon the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising TDP, BJP and Jana Sena, to stay united for a bigger victory in the 2029 polls in the state than the majority they gained in the 2024 elections. "The alliance has to be united. The responsibility of gaining a bigger victory in the 2029 polls than the 2024 majority is on all of you. You have to express your approval and joy over this," said Naidu. Praising the Centre's decision to embark on a caste census, the CM said the move is in the right direction. "I congratulate the Centre. Once the caste census is done and the knowledge of a particular caste's numbers is known, thenbased on that, their financial position can be studied, and a special public policy can be devised to uplift them. There will be a lot of benefit through this," said Naidu. Reiterating the call for population management, the CM appealed to everyone to recognise the importance of increasing the population as there is a risk of youngsters' numbers plummeting in the future, leading to many problems. Delving on the six resolutions unveiled by TDP general secretary and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, Naidu asserted that they will write the future of the Telugu people. Noting that they are a fusion of experience, values, youthful ideas, and aspirations, the TDP supremo said with these laws they will move forward with a singular goal to make the Telugu community number one in the world by 2047. "We have laid out a 45-year roadmap for long-term progress," said Naidu, wishing to be reborn on Telugu soil to serve the Telugu people and called the ordinary party worker the backbone of the TDP.

Theatres To Shut Down In Andhra Ahead Of Pawan Kalyan's Movie Release? Revealed

It was on April 19 that exhibitors and distributors from the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh resolved to shut down theatres in their region if their demands were not met. Dil Raju claimed that they softened their stand later as producers understood the problems faced by exhibitors. The producer also stated that exhibitors in other parts of Andhra Pradesh and in Telangana also made a few demands, like the percentage system. He, however, claimed that the theatre shutdown was never on the agenda in any meeting. Rumours have been doing the rounds for the last few days that theatres would shut down for Pawan Kalyan's movie. Films like Bhairaavam, Thug Life and Kubera are also slated for release in June. Dil Raju said the rumours created confusion and annoyed the Andhra Pradesh government. Andhra Pradesh's Tourism and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh, who is a leader of Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena, had also alleged a conspiracy behind the call to close theatres. He even called for a probe to find out who gave the shutdown call. Pawan Kalyan himself issued a statement, slamming Tollywood for lacking minimum respect towards the TDP-led NDA government when it is contemplating to accord industry status and develop it further. The Deputy Chief Minister stated that representatives from Tollywood have not met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu even a year after the formation of the coalition government. The actor-politician remarked that filmmakers come to the government only during the release of their movies. He said the film industry forgot the alleged humiliation meted out to them by the previous government of YSR Congress. He declared that henceforth, no individual meetings would be entertained with producers or directors regarding matters such as ticket pricing or film releases. Instead, all communication must go through recognised film associations. The statement also criticised the industry's silence on several pressing issues, including a lack of transparency in theatre revenues, tax compliance, subpar infrastructure in both single-screen and multiplex cinemas, and confusion over ticket pricing regulations. Following Pawan Kalyan's outbursts, eminent filmmaker Allu Aravind distanced himself from the group accused of monopolising theatrical business decisions. Denying that he is part of the group of four industry bigwigs allegedly influencing theatre policies, Aravind stated that his company does not own a single theatre in Telangana except AAA.

Amaravati's second life and the future of urbanisation

Amaravati's second life formally began Friday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching projects worth ₹58,000 crore. Though envisaged in 2014 as Andhra Pradesh's new capital after the bifurcation of the state, it became a victim of the bitter political rivalry between TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress boss, YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Naidu, who won the first assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation, had envisaged Amaravati not just as a modern, climate-resilient, renewable-energy-driven city but also as his legacy. The latter aspect, perhaps, explains why Reddy, after ousting Naidu from office in 2019, scrapped the capital city project and proposed a three-capital plan as an alternative: Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool were to be developed as the executive, legislative and judicial capitals respectively. The Andhra Pradesh High Court struck down the idea, but the government continued the legal battle. The return of Naidu to office in 2024 led to a revival of the project, with the Centre and World Bank agreeing to fund it. Hopefully, Amaravati, once a thriving centre of Buddhist learning, will now rise along the Krishna, on schedule and without any more cost overruns. The building of Amaravati will be closely watched for multiple reasons. India's old cities are bursting at their seams with continuing migration from rural areas. New urban centres will need to be built to accommodate the migrants even as existing cities are redeveloped. Can Amaravati provide a blueprint for this transition? The Amaravati model of land acquisition, wherein the government convinced close to 24,000 farmers to pool in at least 34,000 acres of fertile land to build the city, is in itself unique. The city has also been conceived as an urban space with a low carbon footprint. Post Independence, cities such as Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Dispur, and most recently, Naya Raipur, were planned and built as administrative capitals. Amaravati is meant to be an improvement on this model. How it turns out will impact not just Andhra Pradesh, but also the course of urbanisation in India.
