Bodies of 3 pals pulled out after 3 days from car fallen into drain
Thane: The highly decomposed bodies of three men from Mumbai were found Thursday evening in a car that had veered off the Mumbai-Nashik highway, near Kasara, and landed into a drain, some 40 feet below at a turn sloping down.
The three friends were on their way to the Trimbakeshwar temple near Nashik.
The crash site between Kasara and Unbarmali showed telltale signs, the police said. Barks of trees lining the stretch showed signs of having borne the impact of the collision impact. Besides, the mangled state of the vehicle indicated that it was being driven at breakneck speed at the time of the crash, the police said.
The three men — Yagnesh Vaghela (27) from Khar, Praveen Singh (27) from Powai, and Rajboli Mulla Shaikh (29) from Kurla — had left home Monday evening.
They had had dinner before they went incommunicado. Their families had filed missing person complaints.
The place where the car had landed is a desolate forested stretch, not easily visible from the road, said inspector Suresh Gavit of Kasara police station.
The vehicle was spotted Thursday morning by a villager grazing a herd of cows and buffaloes around the crash site. The shepherd informed other villagers who, in turn, alerted the police.
A hydraulic crane had to be called in to extricate the vehicle after which its three occupants were spotted. The badly decomposed bodies, along with the vehicle, were pulled out late evening.
The car registration led the police to the home of the Khar resident who owned it. It was his family who identified the two friends. One of three worked for a call centre, the other two were employed in the private sector.
