Iowa State Patrol reminds people to be safe on St. Patrick's Day
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — St. Patrick's Day is upon us, and state law enforcement officers are reminding people to drink responsibly.
According to the U.S. Department Of Transportation, 74 people died due to drunk driving during St. Patrick's Day in 2022. To ensure drivers are safe, local and state officers are putting more vehicles on the road.

The Iowa State Patrol says that because this year's St. Patrick's Day falls on a Monday, it's hard to tell how busy it'll get.
'I don't know if the bars will be, you know, your typical Friday, Saturday night crowd,' trooper Karen Yaneff said. 'But I think, a lot we're going to be early enough just because a lot of them have to work the next morning. You're still going to get some that will stay out late and probably didn't anticipate that part of it, but it'll be a busy afternoon in the evening.'
Yaneff also says that if you grab a drink, you should either call a friend or a ride share service to get yourself home.
