Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns shades Celtics with shirt during Subway Series appearance

The crowd in The Bronx went wild for Karl-Anthony Towns on the Jumbotron at the Yankees-Mets rubber game on Sunday night. Towns was smiling in a suite alongside his girlfriend Jordyn Woods, and was sure to stand up and show off his interesting wardrobe choice. Towns showed off his T-shirt that had a picture of a Knicks fan who became famous for his appearance in a Sidetalk NYC video after the team's win against the Celtics in the 2021 regular-season opener. The Knicks' star center received thunderous applause as fans of the two baseball teams came alive during the Yankees' 8-2 win on Sunday. 4 The Knicks fan in a 2021 Sidetalk video who appeared on Karl-Anthony Towns' shirt on Sunday. He put his fingers in an L shape on his forehead and danced after saying 'f–k Boston' in a wild scene outside of Madison Square Garden. The largely unknown fan has become an internet sensation and is now on a T-shirt worn by Towns, who is clearly still giddy over the Knicks' six-game series win over the Celtics. Previously, fans of the Yankees and Mets were following the Knicks game from Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, with both fan bases erupting in applause as their basketball team ripped off wins over the Celtics. 4 Karl-Anthony Towns sits alongside his girlfriend Jordyn Woods while attending the Subway Series. Karl-Anthony Towns wore a hilarious anti-Celtics shirt to Yankees-Mets

Karl-Anthony Towns wore a hilarious anti-Celtics shirt to Yankees-Mets There is not a lot that fans of the Yankees and the Mets agree about as crosstown rivals. But one thing many have in common is a love for the Knicks. Especially after Juan Soto left the Yankees to play for the Mets, tensions between the two MLB teams are higher than usual this year. But both fan bases can settle their differences if they share the common bond of rooting for the Knicks, who are one of the most exciting teams in the NBA postseason this year. The Knicks defeated the Celtics in the second round of the playoffs and will advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. One of the main contributors on New York's roster is Karl-Anthony Towns, who is originally from around the area as well. More: Juan Soto had a classy retort to Yankees fans' savage vitriol When the big man (who was traded to the franchise in the offseason) showed up at Yankee Stadium to watch the two New York baseball teams battle in the Bronx, he wore a particularly amazing t-shirt. This is a classic example of "if you know, you know" for basketball fans (especially if they root for the Knicks). While it looks like he is just wearing a shirt of a guy making a funny face, there is a deeper reference to the infamous "Bing Bong" video from Sidetalk popularized in 2021. Take another look at t-shirt and then watch the original "Bing Bong" video and see if you notice what the guy is saying when he makes that face. Note: The language used in that video is not suitable for all work environments. For those who do not have headphones or just want the information, let's just put it this way: The man was not saying very nice things about Boston. So this shirt basically represents the recent iteration of the Knicks-Celtics rivalry boiled down into one silly image.

Suddenly red-hot Cody Bellinger steals Subway Series show in first taste of rivalry

Try it free In a Subway Series that featured Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, neither was the best player on the field. That title belonged to Cody Bellinger, whose first taste of this rivalry seemed pretty delicious. Advertisement Over the three weekend games, Bellinger tallied 14 plate appearances and was retired four times. He picked a nice time for the best series of his season, Bellinger's eighth-inning grand slam putting the finishing touches on the 8-2 Yankees win over the Mets on Sunday in The Bronx. 'I thought it was very fun,' said a player who had long seen Dodgers-Giants battles and now has seen the intensity of Yankees-Mets. 'Obviously, there was a little extra energy in the stadium with both fans being from New York, so I really enjoyed it.' 3 Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees hits a grand slam during the eighth inning when the New York Yankees played the New York Mets Sunday, May 18, 2025. Robert Sabo for NY Post Advertisement He enjoyed the game-changing eighth inning, when Jorbit Vivas survived a battle against Ryne Stanek, which led to Pete Alonso airmailing a throw to the plate. Four batters later, the Yankees had loaded the bases for Bellinger against lefty Génesis Cabrera, who tried to sneak a first-pitch fastball by him. Bellinger turned on the inside four-seamer and launched the type of deep fly ball that the Yankees envisioned this offseason when they acquired him from the Cubs. 3 Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees is greeted in the dugout by his teammates after he scores on his grand slam. Robert Sabo for NY Post Advertisement The Yankees are uniquely incentivized to bring in lefty bats who can pull the ball in the air because shots like Bellinger's — an estimated 356 feet that just eluded the leaping glove of Soto — become home runs in The Bronx (and only four other MLB parks, according to Statcast, including Steinbrenner Field). 'I saw it well,' Bellinger said, 'I was [thinking] I'm going to try and put a good swing on this ball.' It worked, as it has been increasingly working. Advertisement CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS His enormous, six-RBI Sunday night also included a two-run double in the first, an infield single that ricocheted off the foot of Mets pitcher Huascar Brazobán in the seventh and two walks, tying a career high by reaching base five times. A player who owned a .610 OPS as recently as May 3 has shot up to a .789 OPS because of a sizzling streak in which he said there have not been significant swing tweaks. 3 Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees reacts after he hits a a two run RBI double during the first inning. Robert Sabo for NY Post When he slumped in April, he blamed his plate discipline, believing he was attacking pitches that fell out of the strike zone too often. 'Early on felt like I was chasing too much, trying to do too much,' said Bellinger, who had no such regrets about the pitches he tried for Sunday (or Saturday or Friday). 'He's swinging at pitches he needs to be swinging at and his balance is where it needs to be,' manager Aaron Boone said. 'I really think it's as simple as that.'

Russell Wilson feeling ‘part of New York now' as he takes in Knicks playoffs, Subway Series

Russell Wilson truly has been a man about town since signing on as QB1 with the Giants, including several appearances on Celebrity Row at the Garden during the Knicks run to the Eastern Conference finals. The future football Hall of Famer was even spotted celebrating at a Meatpacking District hot spot with the Knicks and Bad Bunny and other celebrities after their series-clinching Game 6 win Friday night against the Celtics, according to Page Six. The 36-year-old Wilson, a 2010 fourth-round MLB draft pick of the Rockies, got back to his baseball roots Sunday night, taking in the Yankees-Mets finale at the Stadium with his singer wife, Ciara, and their children. 4 NFL quarterback Russell Wilson (r.) speaks with New York Yankees' Aaron Judge before a game between the Yankees and the Mets at Yankee Stadium, Sunday, May 18, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 'It's been a lot of fun being around the Knicks and going to their games at MSG,' Wilson told The Post during batting practice. 'The experience of watching and being part of that atmosphere and getting to know Jalen [Brunson] and Josh [Hart] and KAT [Karl-Anthony Towns] and all those guys has been really special. 'It's been a lot of fun just feeling like we're part of New York now, and to be around the other teams, and these great athletes, like my friend Aaron Judge. I'm looking forward to the new season with the Giants.' Wilson, who went to spring training with the Yankees as a non-roster invitee in 2018, and Ciara posed for photos with Judge, New Jersey product Anthony Volpe and others outside the Yankees dugout during BP. 4 Russell Wilson (r.) speaks with New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST The 10-time Pro Bowler said Sunday's game was a gift for his son Future's 11th birthday on Monday. Future Wilson's Little League team — the Yankees, of course — won its division championship last week in San Diego. 'It's always important to be around this winning culture and especially the baseball guys like Aaron, who I've been close with, having been in spring training with these guys, it's always an honor,' Wilson said. 'I've always been a huge Yankees fan since I was little. I loved Derek Jeter and the tradition of it all. Those things matter to me.' 4 Russell Wilson (l.) speaks with Anthony Volpe Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 4 Ciara along with her son Future Zahir Willis and husband Giants quarterback Russell Wilson on celebrity row during the fourth quarter. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The Giants signed the 13-year NFL veteran — and Super Bowl winner with the Seahawks — to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million with $10.5 million guaranteed after the team finished with a 3-14 in 2024. They also added veteran QB Jameis Winston and moved up in the draft to select Ole Miss signal-caller Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick. 'I'm excited about being a New York Giant and excited about our team,' said Wilson, who spent last season with the Steelers. 'With all the hard work we've put in, it's going to be an exciting year for us.'
