Express bus with 13 UMPSA students crashes into trailer on LPT
The accident occurred when the bus, driven by a 38-year-old man in the left lane, collided with the rear of a trailer moving in the same direction.

KUANTAN – A total of 13 students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) were involved in an accident between the express bus they were travelling in and a trailer at Kilometre 161.5 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT) heading east near Maran early Tuesday morning.
UMPSA vice-chancellor Professor Dr Yatimah Alias said the students were travelling by bus from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to the Gambang campus when the accident occurred at around 1am.
"So far, no injuries have been reported and all students safely arrived at campus around 4am via a replacement bus provided by the bus operator," she said in a media statement on Tuesday.
She said upon arrival at the UMPSA Gambang Mosque, the students were immediately assisted by the university with food, emotional support and temporary accommodation for the seven students based at the Pekan campus.
The student support operation was led by UMPSA Fellowship Institution chairman Nasrul Salim Pakheri and Student Representative Council (MPP) president Muhammad Haykal Halid.
"UMPSA also provided aid packs containing instant food and basic necessities to ensure the students' welfare continues to be cared for," she added.
According to Dr Yatimah, the university places great emphasis on student safety and wellbeing and urges students to always be cautious when travelling, especially during festive seasons and semester breaks.
Meanwhile, Maran district police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said the accident occurred when the bus, driven by a 38-year-old man in the left lane, collided with the rear of a trailer moving in the same direction.
"A total of 28 passengers and the bus driver were unharmed. The 40-year-old trailer driver and his 25-year-old assistant were also not injured," he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and all bus passengers were transferred to another vehicle to continue their journey to Kuantan.
