Ye Maaya Cheesave
Firsts are always special. Samantha made her acting debut with this Telugu romantic drama film, co-starring her ex-husband Naga Chaitanya. Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the film follows the story of Jessie, his Kerala Christian neighbour, and Karthik, a young engineering graduate who aspires to be a filmmaker. Because of their differing religious beliefs, Jessie's father disapproves of their relationship, bringing complications to their love.
Eega
This is hands down one of the best films of her career. Helmed by SS Rajamouli, the film also featured Nani and Kichcha Sudeep in the lead roles. It follows the story of Nani, a young man murdered by a wealthy industrialist and then reincarnated as a housefly (Makkhi). He seeks revenge on his killer (played by Sudeep) and tries to protect Bindu (Samantha), the woman he loves, from Sudeep's obsession.
Mahanati
Released in 2018, the biographical drama film was based on the life of actress Savitri. In the film, Samantha portrayed the role of a journalist and garnered much appreciation from the audience and critics alike for her nuanced performance. It also features Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan and Vijay Deverakonda in the lead roles.
Super Deluxe
The 2019 anthology film directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja showcased Samantha's versatility as an actress to play complex characters on screen. The film explores themes of destiny, societal expectations, and personal transformation, intertwining the narratives of a newlywed couple, an estranged father and son, a religious man, and a victimized transwoman.
Oh! Baby
The Telugu fantasy comedy film was an official remake of the 2014 South Korean film, Miss Granny. It follows the story of a 70-year-old woman who is converted into a 24-year-old girl (played by Samantha) as a result of an unusual event at a carnival picture studio. This second chance at life allows her to pursue her teenage aspirations and desires, particularly her ambition to become a singer.
Samantha will be next seen in the upcoming action thriller, Maa Inti Bangaram, expected to go on floors in June this year.
