Emotions are now running high after plans to revitalize one of Syracuse's poorest neighborhoods of public housing didn't play out the way they planned. 'I say, the mayor says, we are poised to get this project done and you have to accept the help available. We are poised to get this project done and you have to accept the help available. If you're not willing to do that then yes, there needs to be a decision from the board on whether or not the leadership needs to stay the leadership,' said Owens. Owens says Simmons should be concerned about the mayor's views and the views of other partners. 'He should be concerned. He should be listening. He should be taking in that feedback because in one breath he cannot say you are not concerned necessarily about the views. But in the second breath say, I need your assistance,' said Owens. Mayor Walsh says the next steps regarding Simmons and the project are to be determined by the housing authority's board of directors. Walsh and Owens do not have the authority to ask Simmons to resign from his position. NewsChannel 9 reached out to Syracuse Housing Authority for comment but has not heard back. The city says they will continue to work on getting the project where it needs to be. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
