Shreveport physicists publish four papers on stereotactic radiotherapy
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Physicists at a hospital in Shreveport have published four publications after a year of groundbreaking research in stereotactic radiotherapy.
The Willis Knighton Cancer Center physicists, led by Yohan Walter, are focused on a precise form of radiation therapy called stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT).
SRT has become one of Willis Knighton Cancer Center's innovative treatment methods for spine and lung tumors.
Dr. Terry Wu is the chief physicist at Willis Knighton's Cancer Center.
'These publications reflect the dedication of our medical physics team to advancing cancer care and delivering the best outcomes for our patients,' said Wu.
Three of the team's papers were published in the Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, and another was published in Practical Radiation Oncology.
The team developed cranial SRS protocols that spare healthy tissue and significantly reduce patient treatment time. They also highlighted the efficacy of spine SBRT technique immobilization tools and set the standard for safety and precision in spine tumor treatment.
They also studied how patient positioning in lung tumor patients can contribute to superior clinical outcomes.
Walter's work was presented at the 2024 ASTRO Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
