Yonas, 37, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to three years in prison or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both. He committed the offence at Lorong Cahaya Damai, Bandar Baru Semariang at around 1.30am on May 12, 2025. Based on the facts of the case, the 21-year-old female complainant had woken up and gone to the kitchen for a drink when she spotted an unknown man—later identified as Yonas—standing half-naked behind the door of her sister-in-law's room. Shocked, she immediately alerted her brother who, with the help of several neighbours, managed to apprehend Yonas as he attempted to flee. Police arrived at the scene and took custody of the accused, who was found to be without any form of identification. Further checks with the Immigration Department confirmed there was no record of him legally entering Malaysia. Meanwhile, the Sessions Court yesterday sentenced Yonas to six months in jail and four strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to illegally entering Malaysia, with Judge Musli Ab Hamid ordering the imprisonment to commence from the date of arrest. The charge against Yonas was framed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or up to five years in jail, or both, and whipping of not more than six strokes. jail Semariang trespassing
