City Year Providence to debut Young Hero Award at 2025 Red Jacket Gala
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — City Year Providence is set to host its annual Red Jacket Gala on Friday, May 9, to honor local community leaders. The Red Jacket Gala brings together City Year champions, alumni, educators, corporate partners, and other supporters for an night of connection and inspiration, according to organizers. The event also recognizes the efforts of City Year AmeriCorps members, who dedicate a year of service as Student Success Coaches. These members work alongside teachers in systemically under-resourced schools to help boost student achievement. New this year, the inaugural Young Hero Award will be presented to a student—or group of young people—who exemplify the city's values through exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to their community, organizers said. The gala will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the WaterFire Arts Center on Valley Street. Last chance to nominate for BBC WM Make a Difference Awards
It is the last chance to nominate people and organisations for this year's BBC Radio WM Make a Difference awards recognise ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their include The Volunteer Award, the Green Award and the Community Group Award, given to those who have changed the lives of others in their categories for 2025 are the Active Award, for those who have used sport as a way of improving the lives of others in their community and the Young Hero Award, for someone under 16 who has made a positive impact. BBC Devon awards to honour those who make a difference
Nominations are open for the 2025 BBC Make A Difference Awards in annual BBC local radio campaign was launched during the Covid-19 pandemic to recognise the efforts of people in the local community. Volunteers, fundraisers, environmentalists and great neighbours are honoured, alongside community groups making a positive impact.2024 winner Rob Wallis, runs ChemoHero which give boxes of kindness to people beginning cancer treatment and said the award "proves we're making a difference". 'Really big impact' Based in Barnstable, ChemoHero was founded by Lisa Wallis in 2012 following her own diagnosis. The charity is now run by her husband, in her memory."Each box of kindness contains around 30-35 items that will help alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments," said Mr Wallis. He added: "We might only be a small charity, but I think we make a really big impact on patients at a really difficult time in their lives. "Sometimes we get letters thanking us, and this award proves we're making a difference." West Midlands Make a Difference Awards nominations open

BBC Sussex and Surrey Make a Difference Awards nominations open
The Make a Difference awards honouring community champions has opened for BBC Radio Sussex and Radio Surrey awards celebrate people who give their time to improve their new categories have been introduced for 2025: the Young Hero Award and the Active finalists will be invited to a ceremony, where the winners will be revealed.
