140 students take part in Young Indians Parliament in Kochi

Kochi: Two-day Young Indians Parliament (YIP), which brought together over 140 students from 15 schools, concluded in the city on Sunday. The event, jointly organized by Charter School and Cochin International School, gave students a platform to learn about democratic processes through mock parliamentary sessions and debates. YIP is a flagship national initiative by Young Indians (Yi), a movement for Indian youth, designed to educate and empower students from grades IX to XII through experiential learning of India's democratic processes. The event was inaugurated by Trins Group of Institutions chairman George M Thomas and executive director Sapnu George. In the event, students took on roles like members of Parliament, ministers and speakers, discussing key issues and drafting policies. The event concluded with a valedictory address by Fort Kochi sub-collector Meera K. Selected students will represent Kochi in the regional round ahead of national finals in New Delhi. tnn

To instil democratic values, leadership qualities, and public speaking skills among school students, a two-day event titled Young Indians Parliament was recently organised by the CII Young Indians (Yi) Erode Chapter. Over 200 students from various schools actively took on the roles of Parliamentarians, engaging in lively debates and discussions that mirrored real legislative proceedings. This immersive experience offered them a deeper understanding of democratic practices, Parliamentary etiquette, and the importance of respectful dialogue. The valedictory session was attended by MPs K.E. Prakash (Erode) and Ganapathy P. Rajkumar (Coimbatore), along with A.K. Ilango, correspondent of Kongu Engineering College, and V. Balusamy, principal. Awards were presented to students who excelled in debate, leadership, and participation. A press release stated that the Yi Parliament initiative had emerged as a powerful platform to inspire young minds, foster civic engagement, and empower the next generation to become responsible, informed, and proactive citizens.

Mysuru: The Young Indians (Yi) Mysuru Chapter, an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), on Saturday extended the registration deadline for all participating school students and members of the chapter until May 15 to take part in the debate competition organised by them. The competition is organised as part of the launch of the Young Indians Parliament (YiP) 2025 – a national-level initiative aimed at instilling civic consciousness, leadership capabilities, and policy understanding among school students. Yi Mysuru Chapter also invited schools in and around Mysuru to submit their Expression of Interest to be part of this impactful youth leadership initiative . With the theme 'Where Young Minds Shape the Nation – Debate | Decide | Drive,' YiP provides a dynamic platform for students to engage in parliamentary simulations, participate in structured debates, and gain first hand experience in governance and public policy. This competition will be conducted in three categories - City Rounds, Regional Rounds, and National Finals. Students are encouraged to develop public speaking, negotiation, and policy analysis skills. The top-performing students from city-level rounds will move on to regional rounds conducted across eight cities, and finalists will take part in the national parliamentary simulation. In the previous edition, 4,300 students from 720 schools participated. The initiative focuses on relevant and critical themes including Skill Development and AI Readiness, Environmental Sustainability, Education Reform, Youth Empowerment, Women and Child Safety, and Technology and Cybersecurity, according to a release.

With the theme 'Where Young Minds Shape the Nation – Debate | Decide | Drive,' the YiP provides a dynamic platform for students to engage in parliamentary simulations, participate in structured debates, and gain first-hand experience in governance and public policy, a note from Yi, Mysuru, said. 'YiP aligns with the Prime Minister's vision to empower youth without political lineage to step into roles of governance and leadership, promoting the belief that the strength of democracy lies in merit, ideas, and the courage to lead. Through its three-tier format—City Rounds, Regional Rounds, and National Finals—students are encouraged to develop public speaking, negotiation, and policy analysis skills. The top-performing students from city-level rounds will move on to regional rounds to be conducted across eight cities, and finalists will take part in the national parliamentary simulation,' the release stated. In 2024, the YiP saw participation from over 4,300 students across 720 schools, facilitated by eight Yi city chapters. The initiative focuses on relevant and critical themes, including skill development and AI readiness, environmental sustainability, education reform, youth empowerment, women and child safety, and technology and cybersecurity. 'We are excited to announce that owing to the overwhelming response to the YiP 2.0 and numerous requests from chapters and school coordinators across the States, the registration deadline has been extended to May 15,' the organisers said in the note. Entries from schools (both rural and urban institutions) as well as individuals are encouraged. The Yi Mysuru chapter now invites schools in and around Mysuru to submit their Expression of Interest to be part of this youth leadership initiative, the release added.
