Mysuru doctor wins Young Investigator Award
Mysuru: Dr Aathira Ravindranath, a specialist in paediatric gastroenterology at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru, won the Young Investigator Award at the 57th Annual Conference of the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition in Helsinki, Finland. This award was given in recognition of her work in the field of paediatric gastroenterology. She delivered two oral presentations demonstrating complex therapeutic endoscopic procedures in children. In addition, she presented her research papers on chronic pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel disease, a release said. "There is a surge in conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) due to changes in our dietary patterns. These diseases can present with loose stools, blood in stools, pain in the abdomen, and poor growth. We have children as young as three months with IBD. We are able to diagnose them on time and initiate treatment early, which will affect the long-term outcomes positively. There are many children with pancreatitis–a condition where the pancreas gets swollen and causes intense pain. Gradually, permanent damage occurs to the pancreas," she said.
