Half-marathon to benefit local charities, education centers
(WKBN) — Runners are taking their marks this morning in a race that starts in Boardman and ends in the heart of downtown Youngstown.
Today is the Sole to City Half Marathon and 2-mile walk/run. The half marathon starts at Second Sole in Boardman, goes through Mill Creek Park, and then ends in downtown Youngstown.
The 2-mile run starts at Penguin City.
This race is organized by the Youngstown Marathon Foundation. This year, the foundation's beneficiaries are OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science & Technology, Paisley House and United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m., and the 2-mile walk/run starts at 8 a.m.
For spectators, the best viewing spots will be on Federal Street downtown as runners approach the finish line and near the Birch Hill Cabin as runners go through Mill Creek Park.
The finish line is near East Federal Street and South Avenue.
After the race, there will be food and vendors in the celebration village near Penguin City.
