Bernie Sanders Makes Surprise Appearance at Coachella 2025 to Introduce Clairo
Sen. Bernie Sanders made an unexpected appearance at Coachella 2025. The 83-year-old Vermont independent took the stage at the Indio, California, festival on Saturday (April 12) to introduce Clairo and deliver a politically charged message. 'Now you can turn away and ignore what goes on, but if you do that, you do so at your own peril. We need you to stand up and fight for justice, to fight for economic justice, social justice, and racial justice.' At one point, after referencing the 'President of the United States,' the audience responded with boos. 'I agree,' he replied. The longtime politician went on to criticize President Donald Trump's stance on climate change. '[Trump] thinks that climate change is a hoax. He's dangerously wrong,' the senator said. 'And you and I are going to have to stand up to the fossil fuel industry and tell them to stop destroying this planet.' Sanders also addressed wealth inequality and corporate power. 'We have an economy today that is working very well for the billionaire class, but not for working families,' he said, calling for action against insurance and pharmaceutical companies. 'Healthcare is a human right,' he added. The senator praised Clairo for using her platform to advocate for critical issues. 'I'm here because Clairo has used her prominence to fight for women's rights, to try to end the terrible, brutal war in Gaza, where thousands of women and children are being killed,' he said. Later that evening, Sanders reflected on his appearance through X, posting a photo from the stage. 'Thank you, Coachella. I enjoyed introducing the great @clairo tonight,' he wrote. 'These are tough times. The younger generation has to help lead in the fight to combat climate change, protect women's rights, and build an economy that works for all, not just the few.' Earlier in the day, Sanders appeared at Los Angeles's Gloria Molina Grand Park as part of his ongoing 'Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here' tour alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The event also featured including Neil Young, Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers. The Sanders-AOC tour has drawn thousands at rallies across Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. At a March 7 stop in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Sanders invited musician Laura Jane Grace to the stage to perform a provocative new song titled 'Your God (God's D—),' which sparked controversy online for its profane lyrics and religious themes. Warner Bros. May Unveil Hours of ‘Arthur' Outtakes as Evidence in Russell Brand Assault Case
In 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery was named as a co-defendant when an extra in the film Arthur sued Russell Brand for sexual assault. In the case, Jane Doe alleged that Brand 'exposed his penis to me on the set and in full view of the cast and crew,' adding that the actor later 'assaulted me as a member of the production crew guarded the door from the outside.' Brand denied the allegations at the time. When her identity was revealed to him under seal, he claimed to have no recollection of ever interacting with her. But a recent progression of the case finds Warner Bros. offering to submit hours of unseen footage from the set for evidence. According to The Times, Patrick Lamparello, an attorney who represents Warner Bros, said the company is in possession of 'four or five hours, it could be more, around eight,' hours of outtake footage from Arthur. The film was released in 2011 and was shot in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department is not currently investigating Brand. Last week, the actor was charged with rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault in connection to incidents involving four women in the U.K. between 1999 to 2005. Pictures, Warner Bros. Discovery, Bender-Spink, and Langley Park Pictures —the co-defendants in the case — either had employees on set the day she was allegedly assaulted, or at least bear some responsibility for what she claims transpired. Warner Bros. also denied the allegations at the time. Brand's legal representatives have expressed concern about the overlap in these assault cases, stating there is 'reasonable belief criminal prosecution is possible in the US based on allegations tantamount to criminal sexual misconduct occurring in the US, of which he has been falsely accused both by this civil plaintiff and several others through the media.' Last week, Judge Shlomo Hagler rejected a request from Brand's legal team to delay proceedings in the New York case. Russell Brand Charged With Rape, Sexual Assault
Russell Brand has been charged with rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault stemming from incidents with four women in the U.K. between 1999 to 2005. The Metropolitan Police announced the charges Friday and provided details about the allegations against Brand. According to police — who opened the investigation into the actor in Sept. 2023 — Brand is accused of raping one woman near Bournemouth, England in 1999, indecently assaulting a second woman in 2001, orally raping and sexually assaulting a third woman in 2004, and sexually assaulting a fourth woman between 2004 and 2005; the latter three incidents all allegedly occurred in the Westminster area of London. The London police force launched the sex crimes investigation following assault allegations against Brand in Sept. 2023 following reporting in The Times UK and Channel 4's investigative show Dispatches, where the allegations against Brand first appeared. Police reportedly received 'a number of allegations of sexual offenses' after the comedian was accused by four women of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse. Before the article published and the episode released, Brand preemptively defended himself on social media against forthcoming 'extremely egregious and aggressive attacks' that he 'absolutely refutes.' Following the allegations, Brand was dropped by his talent agency, Tavistock Wood, which was tangentially tied to one of the allegations made against Brand. The woman who said she was in a three-month relationship with Brand when she was 16, and accused him of being 'emotionally and sexually abusive,' said she went to Tavistock Wood in 2020 with her allegations, seeking an apology. Instead got a letter from Brand's lawyer accusing her of seeking money; it's unclear if that accuser is one of the victims tied to the charges against Brand. Along with being dropped by his agency, Brand's U.K. publisher, Bluebird, decided to pause all book releases related to the actor and comedian. In a video statement following the accusations against him, Brand called the allegations a 'collaboration between big tech and legacy media organizations to target, control, choke and shut down independent media organizations like this one.' Judge Orders Trump Administration to Give Federal Workers Their Jobs Back
A federal judge has ruled that tens of thousands of employees summarily fired by the Trump administration must be rehired — that is if they even want to return to their jobs. On Thursday, District Court for the Northern District of California Judge William Alsup ruled that the federal government had illegally fired thousands of probationary employees across six federal agencies in a 'sham' operation to circumvent employment laws. 'The reason that [the Office of Personnel Management] wanted to put this based on performance was at least in part — in my judgment — a gimmick to avoid the Reductions in Force Act,' Alsup said in court, noting that the 'law always allows you to fire somebody for performance.' 'It is a sad day when our government would fire some good employee and say it was based on performance when they know good and well that is a lie,' he added. 'It was a sham in order to try to avoid statutory requirements.' Alsup ruled that the Departments of Defense, Energy, Interior, Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and the Treasury needed to 'immediately' offer the terminated employees their jobs back, and to follow proper procedure and legal requirements if they wanted to conduct a major workforce reduction. The judge further criticized Trump's attorneys for attempting to 'stonewall' the court's efforts to 'get at the truth.' In a statement released on social media, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that 'a single judge is attempting to unconstitutionally seize the power of hiring and firing from the Executive Branch.' 'The President has the authority to exercise the power of the entire executive branch – singular district court judges cannot abuse the power of the entire judiciary to thwart the President's agenda. If a federal district court judge would like executive powers, they can try and run for President themselves. The Trump Administration will immediately fight back against this absurd and unconstitutional order,' she added. Trump and Elon Musk, head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that has overseen the firings, have both suggested that the courts should not be able to restrict the president's power to do what he wants. Trump has threatened to 'look at' judges blocking DOGE's actions, and posted on social media: 'He who saves his country does not violate any law.' The administration is expected to attempt an appeal against Alsup's ruling, but for now thousands of federal workers summarily ousted from their positions can count a win in their column.
