SSE Airtricity First Division: Treaty United 1 Athlone Town 0 Yoyo Mahdy's strike 19 minutes from time saw Treaty United defeat Athlone Town ending a three-match winless streak in the First Division. A gulf in attacking ruthlessness proved decisive in the end. Treaty punished the visitors for their inaccuracy in the first hour. Athlone almost broke the deadlock 15 minutes in. Dylan Hand's effort deflected out of play after connecting with John Ross Wilson's delightful right-wing cross. The visitors threatened to score again on 33 minutes. Giddeon Tetteh and Brian Torre combined to set up Ben Feeney who subsequently missed the target. On 62 minutes Bastien Hery almost gave Athlone the lead within minutes of his introduction. Kyle O'Connor's free-kick was deflected towards the former Limerick FC midfielder and his looping header almost found the net. Three minutes later, Athlone survived a major scare. Lee Devitt fired a low shot wide after skilfully evading Aaron Connolly's challenge. Treaty almost took the lead on 68 minutes. Mark Byrne's first-time effort cannoned off the crossbar after he collected Karl O'Sullivan's free-kick. Three minutes later, Treaty hit the front as Yoyo Mahdy netted his third goal in four games. The Treaty striker finished to the net following some incisive attacking from Karl O'Sullivan down the left. Lee Devitt almost doubled Treaty's advantage three minutes from time, his low shot was repelled by the leg of Athlone goalkeeper Lee Axworthy Duggan. Nonetheless, Treaty held on for a narrow victory.
