Search underway for Whitehorse senior missing since Sunday
Whitehorse RCMP are asking residents to check their properties and vehicles — and even boats and RVs in storage — for a 79-year-old man who has been missing since Sunday.
David Eric Godfrey was last seen between 6 and 7 p.m. Sunday in the city's Porter Creek area. Police say they are concerned for the senior's well-being because he was not wearing clothes suitable for cold weather and may not have shoes on.
"Yukon Search and Rescue (YSAR) and RCMP personnel have been fully engaged and searching steadily for Mr. Godfrey and have not located him to date," RCMP said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
Police are urging all Whitehorse residents to search their properties, vehicles and outbuildings, as well as anything they may have under tarps, such as parked boats and recreational vehicles.
People who are interested in helping with the search can report to a command post at the intersection of Sycamore and Beech streets, RCMP said in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon.
Godfrey is five feet six inches tall with an average build and a long white beard. RCMP have said he walks slowly and may appear disoriented. He was last seen wearing a red jacket, a black and red toque, and brown pants, according to police.
