Covid back in Satara district of Maharashtra after 2 years

Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) Covid-19 has resurfaced in Maharashtra's Satara district, prompting renewed caution from health authorities. Two patients are currently receiving treatment: a 70-year-old woman in critical condition on a ventilator at Kranti Singh Nana Patil District Hospital, and a 40-year-old man with a stable condition at Sahyadri Hospital in Karad, Health authorities conformed. The elderly woman, already battling complications from a stroke, was admitted in a severe state, while the male patient reportedly has no underlying health issues and is showing signs of improvement, according to Dr. Yuvraj Karpe. Satara district first reported Covid-19 cases in 2020, with over two lakh infections and numerous fatalities recorded in the following two years. The region had seen no new cases since late 2022, making this recent resurgence a concern for local health officials. In response, the district hospital has established a dedicated Covid ward with a 20-bed ICU equipped with ventilators, oxygen, and essential medicines. Dr Karpe said the hospital staff, experienced in managing previous Covid waves, are fully prepared to handle the situation. He emphasized that widespread vaccination has boosted immunity, and there is no cause for panic. However, he urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid crowded places, wear masks, practise regular handwashing, and follow the preventive measures adopted during earlier waves of the pandemic. Common symptoms in the current cases include cold, fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing. UNI AAA PRS
