Later, Fred (Joseph Fiennes) assures Serena Joy that they will be a true "family" once Offred delivers their child and departs from the home. Offred is later arrested and prepares for either "her end or a new beginning." Based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale, the museum said, is. The Handmaid's Tale final episode: Yvonne Strahovski says goodbye

While shooting the seventh episode of the final season of The Handmaid's Tale, Yvonne Strahovski was ready to shed her character, Serena Joy. 'I have thought about it a lot, and I'm very excited to let her go, but it's very emotional,' Strahovski says on set, just before Christmas. 'She is very intensely depressing. And there's just so much weight on this character. There's a feeling that I have for each character, and this one's just very tight and bitter and sort of held together. And as much as I don't take anything home, or I don't carry around with me, I think I do still on some level. And whenever you finish something, there is just this invisible thing that comes off your shoulders.' Three months later, after shooting wrapped, Strahovski talks to TV writer Jacqueline Cutler about what the role meant to her. Warning: This story contains spoilers for the final season of The Handmaid's Tale . Offred (Elisabeth Moss) and Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) visit Janine's baby in season one of The Handmaid's Tale. Now that it has ended, do you feel the same way? When I saw you, I was thinking I was going to feel like throwing a party and then I was done with her. Serena is a lot. She's a handful. It's just a lot of bitterness. It's a lot of grief she carries. It's a lot of resentment. It's a lot of negativity in your cortisol levels. I really thought I'm going to be free, and it was the total opposite. I was devastated. Yvonne Strahovski says she never 'once died a creative death on this show'. Just knowing that it was coming to an end, and it was all the last this and the last that. Then having to deal with the [Los Angeles] fires at the same time, it was really strange. The amount of grief ending a show is huge, especially this show and this character. She feels like a friend. Even though she's awful, she's a friend. And then grieving, saying goodbye to the city. I was not in and out. Most of the actors are in and out; you fly in and out for your days. You go back home. My family, we all moved. We made a life there in Toronto. We built a community when the kid was in school. It's a whole thing packing up 10 years of your life in the city, so there was that. I think for this season, as a character, it was just extraordinary. I feel like it's my favourite season because it really is the most we've ever seen her be the most real – not putting on this sort of face of I'm playing the role of the wife. Yvonne Strahovski and Joseph Fiennes, who played her first husband, Fred, in The Handmaid's Tale. What scenes haunt you? Definitely any ceremony, especially the one when June was pregnant, and we forced her into the rape. Serena ended up doing the right thing, passing the baby over. She still had her own emotions about it. It was devastating for her, for all the complicated reasons, even though she had been doing a horrible thing, obviously, by having a handmaid in the first place and being part of this whole system. The chopping off the finger when she tried to stand up for women speaking, and she was punished for that when Commander Waterford beat her in his office. Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and Commander Wharton (Josh Charles) at their wedding in season six of The Handmaid's Tale. From this season, the first thing that came to my mind was after I get married to Josh Charles's character. We get married and it's truly a love connection. It's amazing. This is a moment where we see Serena having probably the most joyful moment out of the whole show. At her wedding, she's the queen bee, and she's loving every minute. And they come home to the new home, where she thinks she's doing a wonderful job of reforming Gilead so that there are no handmaids, and things are better. Loading They walk into the house, and he says, 'We got a gift from a commander.' And I turned around and there's a handmaid kneeling in the office. I hadn't felt that feeling since those previous episodes, and it was so real to me, to see, to be in a commander's house as a wife, and see the handmaid kneeling again in the office. Serena has not been in that environment for a while. She's been in detention. She's been in all kinds of places but that was so enraging to me personally. And, of course, there's a big blowout fight that happens between Serena and her new husband. It's a great scene, but that was very, very haunting. Yvonne Strahovski says scenes from The Handmaid's Tale, particularly when June was pregnant, still haunt her.

The Handmaid's Tale season 6: UK release date, cast, plot and how to watch
Based on Margaret Atwood's book of the same name, the dramatic TV adaptation The Handmaid's Tale is reaching its climax with its sixth and final season. The show is set in a dystopian future America, where a regime known as Gilead has seized control of the country. Minorities across the spectrum are persecuted, including women, many of whom are forced to become handmaids. In a world where fertility is rare, these fertile women are made to bear children for the ruling elite of commanders and their wives. The story centres around Elisabeth Moss's June Osborne, her former abuser, her family, and the friends she's made throughout the show's five seasons. Season 5 premiered in the UK on October 23, 2022, on Channel 4. In the season finale, June and her daughter Nichole attempted to flee Canada due to escalating threats. At a crowded train station, June's husband, Luke, was arrested after killing a man who attacked June. As June boarded the train with Nichole, she unexpectedly encountered Serena Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski), also escaping with her newborn. The episode concluded with the two women acknowledging each other's presence, hinting at a complex alliance. Here's a closer look at what to expect in season six. Many of the same cast members will return for season six, including the leading women, Moss and Yvonne Strahovski. Here's a rundown of the biggest names set to star in season six: Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford Madeline Brewer as Janine Lindo Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia O-T Fagbenle as Luke Bankole Max Minghella as Commander Nick Blaine Bradley Whitford as Commander Joseph Lawrence Sam Jaeger as Mark Tuello Amanda Brugel as Rita Blue Ever Carradine as Naomi Lawrence Josh Charles (Unknown character) Timothy Simons (Unknown character) Season six of The Handmaid's Tale is already underway in the US, with the first three episodes airing on April 8. However, British fans will have to wait a little longer to sink their teeth into the show, with Amazon's Prime Video set to air it on this side of the pond from Saturday, May 3. Channel 4 will also share the streaming rights, as with previous seasons — presumably on the same date —although that's yet to be confirmed. While details about season six remain under wraps, fans can expect the final instalment to deliver the ultimate showdown between the rebels, led by June, and Gilead. With characters such as Janine still trapped under Gilead's thumb, the final episodes promise to be a tense watch. The official synopsis reads: 'In the final season of The Handmaid's Tale, June's unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead. Luke and Moira join the resistance. Serena tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia reckon with what they have wrought, and Nick faces challenging tests of character. 'This final chapter of June's journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.' Aside from a chilling voiceover from Moss, the trailer offers little more: 'For years we've been afraid of them. Now, it's time for them to be afraid of us. 'This is the beginning of the end.'
